I have a metallic job coming up and would usually underbase in white plastisol, but am considering going the discharge underbase route. Anyone have any experience printing metallics on top of a DC UB? Any reason it wouldn't work?

from our experience it works better...white isn't a great choice for metallic UB generally.
as a matter of fact, DC-UB is the best choice for reflective ink as well. A white UB will give the metallic a very glossy appearance.

i've always found that mettalic inks through really low mesh, like an 80, don't need an UB!

Thanks guys.. We run our metallics through 90 mesh, but I've never gotten the pop I was looking for printing gold without an UB. And that's even if we P/F/P the gold. I'll give the DC UB a shot for this run and see how it goes.

Most WB metallic, shimmers/glitters I have tried are superior in nad and reflectiveness largely due to the no solids content. Awesome products and you can throw a dc base UB under them. It will dramatically change the color. usually

With plastisol, we never underbase, it's never been a problem on 110S. We've even used Saati's 81SDE, but that lays down too much ink for our tastes. But as Tony said, the best metallics I've ever seen were the waterbased ones, much more shine and reflectivity...
