You guys getting the invitation to reserve a free download to upgrade?
I got it on my main computer, but not the laptop. Perhaps that's something to do with update settings being different.

Got the popup on my laptop yesterday.. Was happy to oblige.
If you're not seeing it on your laptop, make sure its currently updated to either the latest Windows 7 or 8.1.

it's free for a year and it'll be monthly subscription after that!

The way of the new world.
Heck, I never even tried 8. or 8.1, so I am certainly unsure about 10

Not true. The upgrade offer is free for a year, and if you do not upgrade during that time you'll have to purchase it for a one-time fee.

After XP I think the other programs all suck and are very buggy :(

I have no beefs with 7, but as I said, have never even seen 8 or 8.1 up close and personal.
btw, when I got my last two machines, 8.1 was current, but both came with 64 bit 7.
Fortunately for me, my wife's laptop came with 7 when it was newish, so it wasn't completely alien to me.

Yep Frog we had to get a new office computer and it was 8.1, ended up buying a new printer because the 8 month old printer was not compatible...just a way to move money from your wallet with all these upgrades.

I've still got XP on 4 workstations as a primary OS and one more as boot option on a triple boot machine (mine).
I've also got 7-64 on 4 stations as their primary OS's, plus my oddball triple boot.
I see no need to change, plus I've got some legacy software that won't function on 8 even, much less beyond.
And I'm irritated with monthly fees for software and all the "cloud" stuff. As recently as 4 years ago, I was told by a software guy for hospitals and banks that LOTS of them were electing to stay with XP. Since support isn't available from Micro$oft for XP any longer, that may have changed since then.
