Title: Anyone using Union Brite Cotton White PADE-1027 ?
Post by: Frog on October 14, 2015, 12:57:35 PM
I got a gallon shipped in error and am wondering whether it's worth a try or just return it?
Pros, cons?

Was my favorite manual white for years.

Okay, I'll try it, but it's way higher than the Street Fighter I currently use, but still, I'm sure, less than what many pay for their favorites.

BTW, Laura at Beckmar is giving me a deal since I'm saving her the expense of returning it. She treats me well and, though a day longer shipping than local,  has become my Union supplier.

I'd say it's superior to SF by a good margin.

Don't forget that I'm printing manually Alan. Adjustments and compensations for different ink characteristics can vary from auto to manual.
Then again, I know that something is likely being sacrificed to sell a white ink at less than $40 a gallon. I suspect this stuff will be pretty nice, but I was also going to look into the new cotton white from IC as my next try.

My favorite manual ink is expensive, but when I try out cheaper options I am quickly reminded why I happily pay more.  If I was doing enough volume where the price was eating me alive, I would find a way to make something else work, but I just love my current white so much.

Triangle Poly Excel in case anyone is interested.  Never bleeds on anything, super smooth, no ink flinging around, mats down great, etc.  I have tested maybe 12-15 whites and the only other one I really liked as much was Bravo Flex, but not enough to pay even more than the Poly Excel.

Union cotton white prints as easy as any other color ink manually. It was my only white for many years. With all the 50/50 blends now I use legacy LB. I only like having one white. The cotton white manually is a dream. It is not sticky and you don't have to modify it ever. Out of all the inks that one has a nice smell, like I'm the only one smelling inks.

Big part of why I like the poly excel. No bleeding on blends and comfort colors but prints like any other ink color. I can pretty much one hit it through a 135S, underage with 150S or 180S, or do top a top white through a 225S or 280 with 55lpi with zero modification and it prints like butter

Agreed. Since most of what I do anymore is contract (sort of) I get too many 50/50s to use a cotton white, but Bright Cotton White was my favorite for a long time. And IC's Legacy White is my standard now.

Laura did tell me that it had a problem period of growing pains a few years back when most inks were reformulated, but it's supposed to be all worked out now.
I go back to 1988 when the Union Cotton white I had could be compared to chaulk. It was nasty! For years I was an all Union shop except for white (and some Wilflex pigments)
I went International Coatings for a long time, then the Rutland Streetfighter, and now I'm looking forward to trying this out.
It would not be the first time that a mistake has resulted in good fortune. (But I was a little shocked when I went to open what was supposed to have been Black!)
Twas good indeed that I had a couple of days leeway on my need for the dark stuff.

i use the 1030 for cotton, but that poly i totally stopped using. Union changed something with it and it totally sucks balls. Now i use a willflex and love it.
