Title: It's a 'LASER'
Post by: Iamavol on November 16, 2015, 09:44:03 PM
I am looking at putting lasers on my press but a little anxious :o to spend the cash on something new.  I am all about having the right and best equipment as that is vital to the success of a print.  Are the lasers worth it or not.

More than worth it. They pay for themselves after you DON'T mess up a expensive shirt with a bad placement.

These are great!
Saves time on press and lots of time with heat press numbers, etc. alignment.

Lasers are great and can be very helpful, but they can be a bit odd at first.

We retrofit all of our presses with them about a year ago.  At first some of our press ops had a hard time with them bc our presses are, carousel up and down, so you need to pick if you are going to use them in the up position or down position. Another pont worth noting is when you're loading the shirt on, it can be a bit odd to look at, bc the lasers stop at the shirt you get this kind of odd double focus effect as you are adjusting the shirt into place. Some have a harder time with this than others.

Personally I really dig lasers and use them when I'm on press as often as I can, and they have meany great uses like getting a print into a tight spot, and above the pocket ( with out buttons ). Among many other great uses.

we use ours every day as well... it's great for left crest prints, as well as anything that needs to be straight or aligned to something else on a shirt.

Teach all new operators from day 1 how to use them, old farts are the ones who typically don't like them......

I just set mine up yesterday and printed 600 over the pocket prints today.  I have 800 more to go, it will pay for itself in this one order.  Now, I'm wondering why I didn't do it sooner.

I just stumbled on to this while looking for something else. I wonder how this would work? We already have a laser set up on our press and use it every day. Love it!

any issues with press vibration causing the lazer to move?

I don't know the answer to that but, I did think that, that might be an issue, so what I did was mount my laser setup to what resembles a microphone stand with the base of the stand bolted to my ceiling over the load station.

no problems with ours, but our press doesn't have a lot of vibration.  probably wouldn't have worked too well on the javelin... that press used to like to 'walk' around the shop.

I went with the LASEIT and am  very happy with it , wasn't sure about the ceiling mount , but get it now because there is no vibration or accidental knocks. like my old setup

No they don't move but I would be more concerned about why your press is vibrating that much to be a concern.

Our previous press(all air) vibrated a good bit more than our current ones do, and there was never a issue with the lasers getting out of whack. The MadeEZ ones are very "rigid" and stay put nice!

I built my own 2 laser system for under $75 and it worked flawlessly.

Let's see it!

I've been on their website... before tonight even. What lasers did you choose and how did you attach them?

I know this is off topic for this post, but rig up a xy scanner for one of these:

http://www.aixiz.com/store/product_info.php/cPath/54/products_id/419/osCsid/6752cdec7111a85abdaee501f56e1ffa (http://www.aixiz.com/store/product_info.php/cPath/54/products_id/419/osCsid/6752cdec7111a85abdaee501f56e1ffa)

and you could have quite the screen exposure unit...

couple it with a DLP mirror system, and you could even do DTS like the Signtronic ones...

*engineer hat starts going on.

Ours are from Axiz as well.

The only thing I'll mention is using a decent quality power supply, lasers are susceptible to power fluctuations.
And by susceptible, I mean no more worky.

Built one today for around $85
bought from amazon, banggood.com and home depot took about 35 minutes to put together, works great so far.

That'll work, but the stand will be a pain compared to binkspot's solution.

Obviously, we all make it work with whats within our budget so this is a great solution to get started. Eventually though, you'll need more from your lasers and upgrade (think of this as a diamondback and binkspot's is a sportsman).
