Title: Formaldehyde in magana discharge ab aw
Post by: noortrd on December 14, 2015, 08:41:36 AM
We print Magna discharge abaw in children garments . The formaldehyde requirement is 16ppm. We tested the garment and its 96 ppm before wash. Magna said ppm will decrease after wash. Is there anybody know how much formaldehyde ppm decrease?

Did you test the garment before printing?

Some garments come in with small amounts of Formaldehyde.

Have you asked Magna what to expect?

Sounds like their product will not pass for children's wear then....

Does Peter have better knowledge?

We also use Magna and we use a version that is supposed to be Formaldehyde free. I was under the impression they had a patent on this.

You can also try Lancer's formaldehyde free. That has passed Nike RSL tests for us, we have been using it as an underlay when a soft hand is needed.

The formaldehyde free product is the ULF.  MagnaColours indeed has a patent on this base product - not the activator, but the base.

AB-AW as stated by noortd is indeed a ZFS activated product.

I believe it's their ULF series thats formaldehyde free, AB AW is just regular discharge.

One thing that's been killing us, even with a great discharge product, is overdyed shirts. Once the run starts and these bombs start going off the printer is really in a bind.

Once the ink is mixed and the commitment to DC is made it is very tough to deal with inconsistent goods. Do yourself a favor and make sure your blank supplier is dependable and has good QC on their dye process.

Blanks often mess up a good print run.  We used to test a drop on the inside of the hem on the first and last shirt of each box.  When we ran across a bad batch of shirts we could at least research lot numbers and pull all out of inventory and race over and exchange the bad ones.  Out there somewhere are a bunch of shirts with a funny dot of color on the inside of the hem.
