I found a good deal on a 4800 and my wife will drive it back in the car. It will be an eight hour ride back. What should be done with the printer? Should the cartridges be left in it or taken out? There is not enough time to get the cleaning solution to purge the system, not even sure if it can be plugged in. . .

I chuck them around all the time, open the top cover, pull the green tab to the locked position, that should lock the head.
Lift the ink lever, that isolates the ink.
It doesn't need any more.

8 hours to pick it up?......That adds a huge cost to a "great deal"....

I got my 9000 for free because it wouldn't print.
After picking it up I noticed that the ink lock was closed. Easy
fix and a great score on that one.

it just happens to be that my wife is about 10 min away from the place that's selling it (actually them they have more than one . . .). She's coming home in a few days and can pick it up on the way back.

I got my free 9600 because it had an error that the dude couldn't clear. 2 minutes on Google and I had the code.
Came fully loaded with new ink installed and a grocery bag full of extra ink cartridges.

I remember reading about it and have been looking for a similar deal ever since. After looking for a while, there have been some decent deals out there, but nothing free or for next to nothing.
I guess I'll have to pay for mine . . .

I'm amazed every day how f'ing stupid people are! I might feel guilty for about a minute on something like that but I'd get over it quickly.
