Title: HSA WB Black on 50/50 blend shirts safe?

Hello,

   I have acquired a new contract customer and their first job is black WB ink on a Gildan 50/50 5000 safety green shirt.  I said this was doable but then i've been doing some research and I am worried that all the ink on the polyester threads would wash off over time.  This is for a major customer of hers so I need to do this one right.  The customer likes the idea of WB inks but as I am new to WB/DC I am looking for some advice, I am going to stay up late tonight and do some testing but just looking for any experience out there.

we do this all the time, but will typically throw in a low cure additive, just to be safe.

I agree, you should be fine even without low cure additive, but add it in, and it'll be perfect.

We use matsui 'spot black' here and that stuff sticks to every fabric we've tested it on.

Remember to adjust your dryer temp for the safety green color and belt speed.  I think you should be fine at 330 and 2 mins in the dryer.  You can add the wrap dry stuff also but it is not really needed with the proper drying but better save than sorry.  As far as ink we like the CCI spot black because it hides trapping very well, Green Galaxy only when we are printing straight black since it does not hide trapping well,  and also the wilflexs new HSA black is really nice but pricey.

Well now her customer wants to either do a black only logo on Ash gray, or a full color (3 shades of blue) on an Ash gray.  Should i discharge this to ensure none of the darker fibers show through?  I know they are going to want solid opaque colors, I have done lots of testing but nothing on an Ash gray.  I know on sports gray the darker colors of the fabric show through even on HSA inks I have used.  Thanks all!

I would add the Fixer-N for any shirt with poly in it. I've found that over a bunch of washes, the black ink dulls on blends compared to 100% cotton. Heck I have even printed Matsui spot black on 100% poly with fixer-n added and washed the shirt a bunch of times, still pretty darn black, but not plastisol black.

For the best wash fastness I would recommend Fixer WF-F or Fixer WF-N for the best wash fastness when using Matsui products.
