I have some 10" two color numbers to do on some mesh (with holes) football jerseys. I have used Transfer Express numbers but with poor results (hence the redo).
Does anyone use the 2 color paper stencils ? Are they worth the hassle of paper stencils?

There was a recent thread on poor results with usually well-performing Transfer Express products. (You even popped in)
I believe that it was addressed by Stahls for at least one who reported it.
Though most were unhappy with the way Stahls addressed it, There was one response that suggested a different product of theirs.

Depending on quantity and repeats, I chose the heat seal route over direct print paper stencils years ago.

Yes I did respond to this. At the time I did get some bad numbers, the football numbers is another issue.
Over time, because of the holes in the jerseys, I have had longevity issues with a transfers adhering due to the holes (where the holes are the edges of the numbers have nothing to adhere to), and eventually the numbers start to look worse along the edge. I was looking in the direction of direct print hoping to aleviate my problems for this one job.

I had the kind of the same problem with some numbers I got for nylon uniforms (not Stahls). They were supposed to work well, but they started cracking after 4 washes or so. I ordered some gorilla (something) vinyl from Stahls, and had them cut oversized to cover up the old number. After 2 years they were still doing well.

we hate cut vinyl and transfers so much that I got static screens and 'made' a numbering system...
we have 2 numbers burned on each screen.. there's 5 screens for the 'LEFT' numbers, 5 screens for the 'RIGHT' numbers, and 5 screens for the 'CENTER' numbers... (ie, 1 and 2 are opposite sides of the screen)
we then use trilock on the manual press to load the screens.... run all left side 1's, flash, then right side numbers, flip screens around as we go.
it's not perfect, but it seems to be saving us time, and more importantly return customers. Plastisol doesn't fail.
Plus did I mention that I HATE cut vinyl?

If this is something you do a lot then you should by a number press. The Inline and Brown are the most prolific presses out there. Both have pluses and minuses. Imo one color numbers are a breeze on the Inline and multi color numbers are easier on the Brown. Yes there are many tricks for printing on open mesh material. I have used most all of them at one time or another.

I no longer print any jersey's but we always had great success with the paper stencils. They take forever, but the results were always better than anything else we tried. We only did it on long runs a few times a year and eventually cut it out altogether due to the labor involved, but if you have the jobs, then the stencils will be your best option. I bought some new, and caught a few good deals on ebay when I was using them.
