Title: Film Printer
Post by: larryk on June 28, 2016, 04:32:08 PM
So after about twelve years the old Xante Screenwriter took a dump and I need to find something QUICK to replace it. What are my options for an all black in 13" or maybe a 17" roll type ink jet printer...... Who has the best deal? Help me PLEASE!

buy a used 4800 or 4880.  Where are you located?

'nothing on craigslist in Kansas, you'll have to go ebay.

4880 is the way to go, 4800 will work too, but they are getting older and some material fatigue is starting to creep in. stay away from the 4900.
if in a bind, EPSON has a new system designed for film positives. It's expensive, but you might not have a choice if you are down.

Maybe the P800

Problem with the P800 is that you have to buy the SE Edition of Accurip and that version only works with that printer.

You are going to want to do refillable carts or cis as the standard ink cartridges are tiny (10ml) and pricy

We have a 1430 with all Black dye from Cobra.  It's been a workhorse.  No complaints.  Very affordable.

1430 is very slow. If you have time to print the films, it does produce incredible results, but holly crap does it drag it's feet. . .

Just thought I would chime in here.  We use the 1430 with Cobra CIS.  When printing super fine detailed stuff i run it at single black and 1440 DPI.  but on 99% of my jobs, spot colors, larger half tone type stuff I run it at all black, 720 DPI from Accurip.  Im sure it is still slow compared to a 4880, but fast enough for me.  Kudos to Alex for helping me on this one, as initially I was printing everything at 1440 DPI one ink.
