Title: Podcast recommendations
Post by: TCT on July 07, 2016, 08:25:10 PM
Anyone have any good podcasts they listen to? I spend between 1.5 and 2 hours a day commuting to and from work. I'd like to get my learn on! :)

Thanks man!  I'd never heard of the local masters one.  2 regular guys do a bit too much jaw jacking for me and seam light on the actual screen printing stuff

Yeah 2 regular guys is a pretty wide variety of topics and definitely a lot of blabbing... but some of the episodes have some good business oriented stuff too.
Local masters has a lot of cool interviews with designers mostly. It's hosted by Real Thread

Outside of the more mainstream ones like radiolab, I really like Criminal right now.  The Moth can be great too.

I think I mostly base what podcasts I listen to on the pace and timbre of the host's voices.

Although it's not a podcast... I've gotten some great tips out of the T-shirt Report with Scott Fresener and Richard Greaves.  But they haven't done any new episodes in a while

My go to is Adventures in Design Podcast. Great information, and great guests. A lot of fun!

Never heard of him but it took appx 3 seconds of listening to him to get that joke...

It's impressive and telling that he has a career in radio.

Took about that long for my wife to say "How the hell do you listen to this guy?!?"  It's not easy, I have to just laugh at him.

Just wanted to come back to this topic since finding some more podcasts that I've been enjoying.

T-Shirt Empire - this one is pretty new, with only a few episodes so far, but has some really great interviews with manufacturers, suppliers, etc.
http://shirtagency.podomatic.com/rss2.xml

CAS - Custom Apparel Startup - this is more focused on the business side of things,  educational style, a little more intro level stuff, but a few specific topics I've personally found to be informative, like about leasing equipment, online advertising, marketing strategies, etc.

Promo Kitchen - this one is more broadly about all types of Promotional items and that market, but a few Apparel episodes that were really cool, interviews with T-shirt Tycoon and Johnny Cupcakes

Check out the story of Dov Charney with American Apparel/Los Angeles Apparel on Startup -
https://gimletmedia.com/startup/
It starts with Season 4, Episode 4 and is totally worth listening to.

And from the same company there's a pretty cool radio drama -
https://gimletmedia.com/show/homecoming/
This one is awesome, it's like a radio mystery thing.  6 episodes so far.

Both of these kept me entertained all last fall, check em!

Haha!  do you turn down the volume if a customer comes in?  Those boys go off!

We had a lady from a church walk in when the dudes in the shop were watching Boogie Nights.  It wasn't a problem until the sex scene came on while I was taking her order...I had to excuse myself and run back there to get them to turn it off!

Oh yeah...but we don't really have walk in's anymore, but of course when we do Joey is one a rant about a monkey and a muffler!

I wanted to unearth this thread to see if anyone had any newer podcast suggestions related to the industry. Got some wireless headphones and need something other than music to listen to from time to time.

I really like the NPR one called How I Built This.

I used to listen to a lot of Gary Vee too.

But now I am on audiobooks way way more. My commute is like 10-15min but even that is enough to get me through a bunchhhhh of books!
