Title: I-image file format question
Post by: ffokazak on July 18, 2016, 06:11:05 PM
Heres a question for the pros...

I have a file folder system on the I-Image Dell that I access from my mac, and drop files / jpegs into for my guys to print. I keep everything organized based on the PO#, and it goes very smoothly.

If I separate a multi colour file in photoshop or occasionally Sep studio and try to save that directly on the Dell as a DCS 2.0 it will not open... It shows up in the folder, but Colour Rip doesn't actually open it.

If I create the exact same file and save it to a USB stick  and open it from the USB it works fine.

What am I doing wrong?

With step studio it does not create the channel step as a spot color.
You need to open each channel and assign a spot color to it.
Then save the dcs 2.0 or psd file.

Even if I completely separate something into Photoshop, its the transfer of the file.

If I transfer it via dropping into a shared folder, it will not open. Same file taken manually with a USB stick is opening fine...

Got it, I misunderstood.
Save the file to a temp folder on the PC then rip. It does add one extra step , but will solve your issue.
When coping right from Mac it sometimes has issues reading the file right away and not ripping bc it is a partial file.
