already, so due to issues with my other post, looks like we have to dive into dye sublimation for a project.
What is a good entry level unit to be looking at?
-
How wide do you want to print?
-
What size format? If small format I think Ricoh/Viruoso is the only way to go.
-
Our Ricoh 3110 is small ( Max 8.5"x14" prints) but that thing has made me a ton of profits in a very short time.
It cost 600$ I think.
Been super reliable, and never have clogs. I hate epson inkjets, but the ricoh has been a gem.
If the small print size is suitable, I would recommend that printer again and again.
-
Yea from everything I have read, ricoh is the best option for small stuff, but for wider stuff it depends.
-
i love our epson 7070. it is a large desktop printer :)
-
Whichever you go with, small format or large , set it up with refillable ink cartridges or a continuous ink system. I have a Ricoh GX7000 and couldn't believe the difference in ink price. I started with the Sawgrass cartridges and switched to refillable carts from Cobra Ink Systems.
-
Cobra is the ticket for ink although the price has jumped quite a bit over the years. Not sure what type of agreement he had to do with Sawgrass, that I'm sure contributed to the price increase.

well we need to be able to print a 12.5x12.5 circle, so at least 12" wide.
I was reading some notes about being able to possibly use an epson printer, and we have an old epson 9600 collecting dust. might try and get that up and running.

hey if you are needing just the printing done shoot it to me cost will be mush better than trying to get an old epson to print dye sub. if you want. cost is very low.

it's a huge image. 12.5x12.5 is huge, and for the headaches we are already having it'll be much better for us to control it in house. But i appreciate the offer.

The gxe7700 can do 13x19 so check the Virtuoso model and they should with the extra paper handler. how many pieces that big? a bigger printer might justify it. Something like this - http://www.dyetrans.com/components.php?type=sublimation&class=wide_format&printer=vj628&level=starter (http://www.dyetrans.com/components.php?type=sublimation&class=wide_format&printer=vj628&level=starter)

no problem
we print 64" wide so the width and height is no issue
