Title: Monitoring ink levels
Post by: TCT on August 08, 2016, 06:20:30 PM
We finally upgraded our shop security cameras and made use of the old ones...

Now we can monitor levels on the back side of the press!

man, this is a dream come true.

While I have been told MANY times I am often in dreams, I'd like to say you were the first male from Texas I have heard that from, but I'd be lying...  ;D

Serious note, if your dream is lacking in detail, I super glued magnets to the bottom of each camera so they can be moved to whichever head we need them at.

Awesome.   We bought one of these cheap set ups: http://www.harborfreight.com/color-security-system-with-night-vision-60565.html (http://www.harborfreight.com/color-security-system-with-night-vision-60565.html)  to do the same thing, but have never gotten around to hooking it all up.

Obviously I need to clean up the wires a bit, but I wanted to make sure they would work first!

Love this idea. About how much did this cost to do?

I already had the cameras. But I was telling someone else you could buy the TV, TV mount, 4 camera system, magnets and all required wires for $300 or less. Thinking about doing it on our smaller press. Thing is we mainly print 1-3 colors on that so there is very little reason to have one there. Well, aside from just feeling cool....  ;D

fantastic idea, I need to do that for sure! What upgrade did you do for your "security" cam set up? I've been looking at different ones, looking for anywhere from 10-16 cam dvr set up, weather proof, night vision ect. I think some dirt is sneaking on the property at night and weezing our propane out of our big tanks. Plus I just want to have everything in view, inside too so that employees know they can't be hiding in corners on their dam cell phones. THAT is getting old fast! Did you go wireless set up, or just oldschool plug in? I'm wondering if cams on the GT would vibrate, it does do a bit of banging the way the screen holders go up and down.

I sell security cameras.

They aren't the cheap junk you get at Cosco/Sams.  They are 2mp+ cameras that give you 1080p on up to 4k if you really want it.  Only time larger than 1080p will really benefit you is if you have to digitally blow it up for a face if you are broken into.  For general monitoring your tv will only be doing 1080p anyway.  They are all IP cameras, I sell them for $100 bucks a camera (TSB special) and the NVR without hard drive is $100 bucks as well.  I can add the hard drive and program it all out and recommend POE switches and everything to get you up and running.

As far as monitoring ink levels, I HIGHLY recommend cheap cameras from HF/Cosco/Sams as you don't need 1080p+ resolution to watch an ink well. ;)

Not to be out done by my Albino friend Alex... Not really... but I did have this box arriving yesterday but Amazon screwed the pooch and I got it today.  Android box that ties into my security system so the guys out back can watch the back of the dryer as well as the front two doors. That way when they hear the chime and they are by themselves, they can look up to see that it's just me or whoever vs a customer that they need to go and attend to.  One spot left to fill in the 2x2 matrix there.  I'll probably drop a camera on the other side of the press and see what a bird's eye view might give them for ink wells.

The white hose blocking the view of the belt is a portable AC exhaust that will be moved shortly.
