Title: Waterbased crystalina or similar. Any suggestions?
Post by: blue moon on August 29, 2016, 03:04:50 PM
we have a job that calls for white print with some glitter flake in it, but needs to be done with waterbased ink.

What's a good ink to get?

others will most likely have a better answer, but i believe matsui and virus have inks like this.

I have never seen a waterbase crystalina..the mesh required for the flakes would be a mess.. you may have to run a DC white and the greenest crystalina you can find then educate the client on whats available.

is there a clear waterbased gel I can print over the large flakes? We could mix the glitter into the clear and then overprint to seal it. Would that work?

Matsui has a glitter base with RB code.  Works great for large flakes (even up to .008 through a 38 mesh]...

The base evaporates off in the dryer leaving an awesome hand.

You need to get polyester crystals, as the metallic will tarnish.

Also... If you're doing these on 50/50s, you'll want a bleed blocking base to make sure you don't get dye migration into the base/binder
