... anybody have a suggestion for a phthalate free, matte black plastisol ?
My Rutland Claira has too much shine.

Excalibur Matte Additive is a dulling paste which can be mixed into Plastisol ink to greatly reduce the gloss. The result is a smooth matte print. Matte additive does not contain any puffing agents. Matte additive will also reduce the 'tack' or stickiness of inks.Matte additive is in paste form and must be stirred well into the plastisol ink at the ratio of 6% to 10% by weight.

I use International Coatings 222 Dulling and Suede additive. At 2% it removes shine and at 10-15%, it puffs a little to give a suede leather look.

... I have dulling paste and it works. But, does dulling paste contain phthlates ?
I'll have to give a rep a call.

I wouldn't think that it would, as it isn't a plastic which requires softening, as our plastisol (and pacifiers) did.

matte black is my favorite. I use Triangle Batman black, but it's not compliant as far as I know, I recently tried a gallon of Wilflex EPIC - I forgot the actual name of it - I think they only have one black that is matte finish, I just returned it yesterday. . I'm not liking the epic stuff so far. . .

CCI Baja black. Best black I've used so far. Awesome matte finish that almost looks like waterbase. Yes, I prefer it to their Matte Black.

Try 3% dulling additive.

I did receive a reply from ICC that their 222 dulling paste has been non-phthalalte since 2010.
So, that's a good option to create matte finish and still maintain non-phthalate compliance.

No problems with Wilfex Matte Black + Fashion Soft here.
I like to get opaque, thicker blacks and extend, in case you need it more one way or the other in terms of it's matt-down ability.
eb, tell me why CCI isn't promoing their stuff a little harder? I'm seeing all kinds of phthalate-free whites and blacks on there. Maybe I should talk to a rep? Yours and Tony's reviews are the only reason I even knew they were making inks and emulsions in the first place.

I get the feeling they don't have to. They're smack dab in the middle of a bunch of big shops plus word of mouth is best, and working apparently.
I also think that they're probably a division of a larger chemical company, like many manufacturers.

Zoo -you said you like a thicker black, I am assuming you are using the epic matte black? mine was really thin, similar to the soft hand, I had a hard time scooping it up. .Erin is checking into it, something strange in the neighborhood. . .my local supplier carries the CCI stuff. .maybe worth a shot.

Ours is thicker, very thixitropic like pretty much all the Epic inks. Even with 20% Fashion Soft it takes some stirring and a few strokes before it's flowing. Yours sounds like fashion black or something, not sure if they make that.

Black waterbase would work just fine too, no special mixing, phthalate free, good to go.
