Title: Ink Jet Printer suggestions
Post by: rmonks on April 29, 2017, 07:50:14 PM
Man I have been fighting with my Epson 1900 for two hours printhead works part of the time then seems to clog. Got out a brand new Epson workforce 1100 I have had this thing 4 yrs open the box pop in ink cartridges nothing I guess maybe the printhead in it is clogged maybe factory test ink. I have an Epson 3000 still works great, it is my main printer. But I need a second printer I use in a different location, I may use it once a week. Any suggestions for a low cost ink jet printer.

Have you looked into the Epson L-series?
The original Epson L-series inks work fine for my exposure.

I am thinking of getting an L1300 or L1800 because my 1100 print head is wrecked(second print head gone).
If I do get it, i will have to upgrade my Accurip.

we've been happy with the 4800/4880 series. can buy them all day long at $600. or wait for a good deal at $100.

add carts (or CIS)
add good ink (accublack)
print from one head and put cleaner through the rest
linerize it through your RIP

fast, low error rate, GREAT min/max, GREAT dots well beyond what 95% of printers need, what else could you ask?

I broke down and bought a 1430, so far a nice printer, inkcarts are a little small, but it's been a great printer I use it for my accurip and still have the old 3000 sitting right beside it.  I go back and forth between them, that old 3000 has been a work horse for some years now

I recently got a Canon Pixma IX6820. It had a lot of the same specs as the Epson 1430 but cost less than half as much. I'm pretty happy with it. Here is my recommendation/review video:

I'm busy setting up a new EPSON T3270.
There are good deals on this right now.
I have no experience printing with it but what I do like is the fact that it has 5 cassettes.
I am setting it up with one black UV blocking for film and CYMK for sublimation.
It's also really fast.
At the moment I have a 4880 with all black and Accurip.
I don't use the all black but having it means that if one head gives trouble I can switch to another one and keep printing.

I saw in the video that this printer does not require a rip software program, is that correct?

It will not take the place of rip software. I am printing without rip software and print straight from photoshop but I have to set up my separations/halftones manually.

do yourself a favour and by the Cobra system , way less mess/ cost  and lasts a long time

That was one of my original questions about this printer that no one with any practical experience could answer.

Will it, in fact, run as a good file printer with one PB cartridge and print dye sub transfers with the other 4 carts?

It has two blacks so I'll run one with Accurip and for the CYMK, I've got bulk cartridges and sublimation.
You could also use it as a regular inkjet printer for paper.
