OH BOY you will buy another one when you get older
I had mine for 2 years until my hand started feeling some mild pain
from holding the mouse
now i`m using it alot. i work with it whenever
possible
even for browsing the internet

It had been sitting on my desk, plugged in and ready to use for 3 years now. Got tired of dusting it every week.
Definitely one of those things where you have to make an effort to use it in order to be a proficient user of it.
Maybe I'll add the Cintiq 24HD  to my 2012 Christmas list  :)

As an artist, I've always been completely annoyed trying to do any art with a brick ( mouse ) on a computer.
( it's LAME! )
I've got an old wacom at home here and one at work.
They're not all that, but they are much closer to a pen/pencil/brush than a mouse is.
 
Using a stylus is much better for your hand/fingers/forearm.
A mouse can mess you up if you use it heavily day-in day out ( think editing alot of nodes, for example ).
And a stylus gives you better control.
