Title: Ink Mixer Comparisons
Post by: IntegriTees on August 15, 2017, 11:38:24 AM
Would like to get some reviews for all 3 mixers

M&R Turnabout
AWT Tornado
Prodigy Forumulator

Would like to be able to have the quart option.
Also, the Formulator with the digital setup allows you to time speed ups and down and has different paddle types.
The turnabout and tornado look to be about the same in setup

Can anyone give some pros/cons of each?
I'm going to try and get ahead of the cold shop and concrete inks in the morning.

Here is a ink mixer I made for my whit inks.

Total cost was about $300 with a drill press from Harbor Freight.

We have a Turnabout and use it daily.  It's great for gallons and 5s.  We also use a drill press for quarts.

Are you running all plastisol?

We bought a Tornado a few years back.   It mostly gets used "manually", sticking a quart or gal of plasti in there and using an ink knife held in place to stir as the quart spins around.   Cleaning the blade attachments is a drag, only really worth it on 5gal for us.

All the wb product is mixed with a drill mixer mostly.

Why did you go with the Tornado over the M&R Turnabout?

So why did you choose the Tornado over the Anatol model that also does quarts?  It seems the new Anatol Formulator has a touchscreen and you can set time, speed, direction, etc.  Seems like it makes mixing dummy proof.

Anyone with experience on the Formulator?

Haven't had the best experience w anatol so went w the awt.  It's a good piece though the mix paddles could be better designed for cleaning and they also can shave off bits of a 5 gal when mixing if you don't watch it.
