Got my new IPAD did not work so waiting on a replacement.
Anyways does any users here no if there is any apps for excel documents? I will need to work with spreadsheets and send as PC compatible, is it possible open office works on the IPAD?

Apple's "Numbers" app opens and saves Excel files. $19.95 or so. Downloads immediately. Works very well. I've replaced all my current spreadsheets with it that I'd created in Excel. I bought it to replace an older Mac version of Excel that won't work if I upgrade to the Lion version of OSX, and I couldn't open the newer Excel files anyway. The only thing I don't like about it and haven't found the solution for is the window you edit a formula in is more like a small button. I did like the larger palette that Excel has.

Hmm sounds interesting, I will peruse that app. But like you I work with formulas a lot so if it is hard to work with I might not like it. Still curious (well I will answer my own question and check the site) if Open Office works.

Google Docs (their Office suite, I believe) may work. I have no idea if its available for Apple.

Here's a screenshot of the editing window. It's in the cell adjacent to the 4th "Changeable" title. It's about the size of a cell, and appears in the cell you're editing.

I like Numbers a lot and agree w. Mr. Pitman on the formula window. It can open and save to excel format and will bring up a list of any import issues when you open excel files inside of it. I've found the files to play well with each other between the two programs.
My favorite thing about Numbers is the way you can layout multiple sheets that are feeding into one another on a single screen. It's just a little thing but makes a huge difference in ease of use when you're adjusting and visualizing, say, a detailed budget with many categories. You don't have to tab back and forth to check totals, etc. Like many apple things Numbers does just about the same thing as Excel, sans a few features but much easier to work with visually.
G-docs spreadsheets are nice as well but far more limited in the fancier functions. I believe I saw that pivot tables were now available though. If you could use multiple g-docs sheets as a light database that's web-hosted it could be extremely useful.

I use Numbers and Pages on my iPad as well and they really work great. Only $9.99 for the apps on iPad, $19.99 for your Mac. It will open .xls

Have had the Ipad for a bit now the Numbers app is working awesome little cumbersome in some areas but for being on a tablet no complaints.
Now my biggest problem is the email program built in. I have it set up fine to pull emails from my server but no matter what I try it deletes averything from the server, I need the emails to remain on the server so my other computers can also pull the emails.
Guess I am asking if there is users out there that know a good email app that works with POP and has more controls than the ipads built in?

Not about mail, but I was mistaken about Numbers having only the small editing "button" for formula creation. There's also a window at the top that displays the formula from the selected cell. You might have already figured this out or noticed it by now anyway.
If I didn't have my laptop, I'd get an iPad. Fooled with one at the Apple Store while I was trying to cadge a replacement battery from one of the "geniuses" and I gotta say, they're cool as hell.

POP by design should always delete the emails from the server. If you are not deleting them with other devices, they are probably set up as IMAP. Check the settings on them and see if that's right. . .

Thanks Pierre I have to admit I really do not know the difference between POP and IMAP, not to mention I am apple illiterate. I did do some more playing around in the settings and I think I now have it figured out. Tho I still hate the built in email app. I wish I had a little more functionality such as organizing the views, message rules, and group contacts. Will search the app store and see what is available.

just as you described, the difference between POP and IMAP is that POP downloads the emails to the device reading it. Can't remember (it's been almost 15 years since I used POP) if there is an option to save the msg on the server, and even if there is it will not synchronize with the next device that checks for new email.
IMAP on the other, keeps everything on the server (some clients you can configure to store the drafts, deleted msgs and few other things locally, but your main folders remain on the server). This way if you read the msg at home and it changes the status to read, when you get to work it will have the same status. In other words it remembers what you have done on another computer.
When you are setting up a new email client all you have to do is select IMAP and enter the IMAP "send" and "receive" settings (which are normally listed at the same place where you get the POP setting).

with IMAP, it will delete your message from the server when you delete it from your inbox.
think of it as synchronizing your inbox to the server.
-
By default, POP will download and delete the message on the server but I can't remember using a client that didn't support keeping the original. (If live mail supports it, it would be pretty sad if Apples *nix clients didn't... they have plenty of great code they're free to bite on... ;))

OnLive Desktop app. Launched about 2 weeks ago. Runs Excel, Word, Powerpoint. Looks & runs just like a scaled down version of Win 7 on your iPad. And they give you 2GB of storage for free.
I hate the email app too. (could never get it to sync right) Finally gave up on it and switched to the GMail app. Multiple accounts are now forwarded to a gmail account. It syncs my iphone, ipad and any computer I log into Gmail from. I just have to remember to select what account I want GMail to use when I send/reply if it's different than my personal account I have set as default.

All interesting I guess I should educate myself on POP and IMAP some.
What we do is have all work computers with Thunderbird, they are all set up to leave messages on the server for seven days unless deleted out of the trash. This way we all can go home and open up TB on our home PC's and pull the same emails. Nothing worse than pulling emails from home on my IPAD and getting to work and find out all important emails were gone lol. Like I said I think I have it figured now but I still need to upgrade the email client built in sucks.
