So I got about a month to search for a new press that is the best choice for us. We really want to go to a ten head up from an 8 but our current space is limited to just an 8 head. The best option I see is an oval which starts at 10 head base model. Doing some quick measurements it seems it could fit in our space comfortably. What I want to know what is the base models of these units going for roughly, surely there is a premium for an oval over carousal. If the price is to much then I would have to look at the 8 color sportsman.

can you get more space with a side clamp machine? Those usually shave a foot or two off.

Nope becuase the machine would be close to a wall and really needs the front rear clamp style to get a screen in.

The stryker is a 10-station base with 6 print head press, so when you add to that press it would be a 12 color press and etc.

I believe the numbers on those are pretty high compared to a circle press.
Dave on the site has 1 or 2 of them now and ravs about them. We nearly went that route just due to our space and how it would flow with one. But after the fire the space worked better for a circle press since we knocked the wall down and had more space.

The M&R 16 Station / 12 Color Stryker Press in a 60cm x 80cm (24" x 32") print format runs just under $110K + Crate and Installation.

I love my Stryker. Didn't have the space for a huge carousel so it fit nicely in my long slender available area.
and they are actually less expensive than the round machines.

I can't think of any. Aside from the length. Mine is 40 feet long. You'd think I'd lose weight running around it. Nah. Since the heads and arms are so short, and head supports as well, it holds great registration. I wish I had a few more of these machines.

How many print heads Dave, sounds like a beast.

14 usable heads, two stations on either side with no heads for flash and cool, three flashes. One on each side and one on the end. So it's just a 14 color 22 station.

Sadly we would not be able to fit the 12 color in our space, and the six color is not enough colors. Checking dimensions on the GIII and Sportsman

Have you run designs simultaneously one on each side? if so did it work out well or not so much.

I could, and there have been some times it would have been nice, but I don't have a dryer at both ends of the press. I did consider running a two color back down the first side, good flash, unload and load at the other end and do a left chest on the way back. Just didn't make it happen. In theory you could double index and run four jobs if the stars aligned. I'm guessing that's why you see 890 station presses being built at M&R. (Side note: If you ever get the chance to take a tour of M&R, do it.)

This rarely works in practice and shouldn’t calculate into your thought process in whether to buy an oval. The basically trying to run the equivalent of two presses on one press. So all the little things that might stop one press is now multiplied by 2 except when you stop you just stopped two presses instead of 1 and the second job has to wait around for whatever reason stopped the other job.

I agree completely. comparable to embroidery on multi head. One thread break and all the heads stop.
