Title: American Flag Aspect Ratio
Post by: Frog on February 23, 2021, 09:50:00 AM
I was just setting up some American flag prints, and realized that most designs I have don't follow what I see is the "correct" ratio of 1:1.9. In other words, officially, the flag is to be almost twice as long(fly) as it is high (hoist).
Most in my collection are much less than this, "squarer" if you will. They, frankly, look better.
Of course, the official ratio is only for official flags, but what do you use for most decoration purposes?

I think 2 x 3 is the ratio we've used, but we created our stock ones over 25 years ago, so I forget, lol.

Much more like most of mine. My current one actually works out to 2 x 3.3

I thought 3 x 5 was the ratio.  The majority of flags on Amazon are in that ratio.

Flags that are sold for personal use at home seem to be that size, and that pretty much follows the 2 : 3.3 (1 : 1.65) ratio.
As I said, it is apparently different for flags used for official purposes. "Official" is apparently the operative word here for the longer versions. Obviously not common.

Thanks for the link, it has me pretty confused, but if I go over it a few times it will start to sink in, like most things for me.
