Title: wtf with these boxes??
Post by: farmboygraphics on May 28, 2025, 11:19:37 AM
Anyone else gotten these new boxes from Sanmar? This alone will make me go back to S&S.

I dont think going back to S&S will help... I get that crap from both.

Along with every day I am missing something, from both.

I was missing a few items (which knock on wood, does not happen often) and I mentioned the boxes, which come from the Virginia warehouse, and she said there were some complaints. If you're not careful opening them they're not reusable. My rep sent me a video on the proper way to open a box.  https://vimeo.com/1080650754/8940e9e1da?share=copy (https://vimeo.com/1080650754/8940e9e1da?share=copy) This has got to be one of the signs of the Apocalypse.

Well we print use and print our own boxes anyway....

So now it takes 45 seconds to open a BOX and they recommend a knife to do so..........I feel like an old man yelling at clouds but come on, let's stop trying to improve and be progressive. If something works, leave it alone. Only engineers can overcomplicate a BOX....what's the logic here, I can not find the angle.. Less waste? Reusable? NO TAPE.....?

Sanmar sales rep was in and was telling me about the new packaging where the computer AI knows the exact volume of the contents and creates a box and seals it.  Sounds like what he described.

That warehouse is all automated. They didn't do it for our ease of use.

what could possibly go wrong?... We humans are eating ourselves alive, all in the name of progress... or whatever

I'd rather eat other people than bugs.

Probably shouldn't say that outloud

Anyone have a list of which warehouses are automated so I can avoid them?

SanMar also confirmed, it's only the Virginia warehouse.

This is the dumbest idea, they must have done no market research with us printers to see how we'd react.  The labor time they are saving by using these boxes is transferred to us.  Our check-in labor time will increase, as will our costs if we're now forced to re-box every order from SanMar.  If we do reuse the boxes, now we're adding seconds to each box that is a struggle to open at the end of the dryer, and then passing these boxes to our clients - am I supposed to send this video to our customers when they're confused?  Massive fail all around.

Obviously a genius idea by the bean counters that only see numbers and the tech nerds that don't know can != should.
If I had to guess, the upfront cost for the machinery to perform this is extravagant so probably won't be quietly swept away,
but at least with the complaints won't likely spread to other locations either.
