Yeah, but when I post something like this up I get yelled at and told to just drop the coin on a real dryer.  ::)

I'd be a bit nervous about the wooden enclosure, insulated or not, but to really round out the "Fred Flintstone" look, he could've made the legs out of logs with the bark left on them.   :P

because we expect more out of you. sorry, but this is not amazing - it's foolish, I hope nobody is in the house when it burns to the ground. . .. . .extreme heat + wood = . . hmmm......4?

wow, that is about the dumbest thing I have ever seen.  It takes a while for wood to dry out, but when it does, that thing has a really good chance at lighting up.  Holy cow that is dumb.

And yes Gilligan, I would yell at you for that too.  This actually reminds me of a post I put up last week.  Anybody remember what happens to wood when it is exposed to heat for long periods?

All it takes is for one shirt to get stuck and catch on fire, the inside would start burning first and probably get out of hand before you could do anything to stop it, and as Brad said once that wood is dry it will possibly self combust just from radiant heat build up.

same thing as putting a wooden spoon in the microwave.

Well, for the record the one I posted wasn't wood... it was just DIY and done with IR lamps.

That's one scary video. In addition to the home made fire pit of a dryer, I see a wall mounted heater and a wall outlet without a cover - both within inches of the dryer.

Hope he's got good insurance.

Homer, well... that dryer does have a very long infeed so they aren't THAT close. ;)

For the record, I don't know this guy... just posted a video. :)

Homer didn't you once dry tees in your oven ( so did I when I first started HA ha), but I would agree that is a fire hazard waiting to happen, do ya think my insurance would cover that if bought one lol.  On the bright side just goes to show what you can do if you have to.

Wait what happens when you put a wooden spoon in the microwave?

I didn't get it to actually light, but it does burn.  When you're a kid, anything goes in the microwave.  I guess people do dry small wood pieces in the microwave.  I burnt the crap out of a spoon when I was younger.

You guys ever seen someone try to cure a shirt in a microwave?  Heard of it, but never got to witness the entertainment.  (FYI, reports were it does NOT work well    :) )

gotta give the guy credit for using what he had. its better than curing with a flash.and i would think with the right insulation and the coil heaters its probably safer than it appears.just sayin..

Redneck engineering at it's finest. What do you want to bet that before he meets his maker his last words will be "Hold my bear Billy Bob, you ain't gonna believe this right here!"?  ;D

with the right insulation, it probably would be, but even small leaks in that insulation will almost pinpoint that heat onto a single spot on the wood casing.

Not to mention, lint from shirts can build up in really bad places and cause fires as well.

All I am saying is it looks nice, but I sure as crap wouldn't use it.  Go to the HVAC supply company, you can get cheap metal panels that are fairly easy to bend into shape for ductwork.  And guess what, the only metal I have seen burn is magnesium, and I am pretty sure they don't use that for ductwork.

I can hear the fire marshal now.. on the phone to one of his fellow fire marshals.... "Ed, get your ass down here, you ain't goina believe this sh!T!"

Oh, and he forgot to put deer antlers over the dryer entrance and exit.

If I recall correctly, someone on the old board had a fire start just from the heat drying out the wood floor underneath their
dryer.

plywood in itself is a great insulator, when plywood is made at the factory
they use a heat press using pressure between 20 to 30 psi per inch
and to 200 to 250 degress to speed up the cure process
i`m not worry about the plywood box going up in flames
my concern would be the belt would be able to withstand the temperature in the long run
since it comes in direct contact with the heat
just my 2

panels in an oven will reach 900-1000 degrees.  that is hot enough to make wood burn....easily.

Wouldn't that be considered a wood stove?
