Title: WooHoo! New Diamdback S showed up today...
Post by: Catnhat on March 26, 2012, 10:52:33 PM
except it showed up about 3 days before it was expected.
Talk about some scrambling around this morning!
No forklift, no pallet jack at the shop, equipment needed moved to get it inside, still had a job on the manual to run......and of course, it HAD to be raining this morning.

Called in some favors, promised some lunches and beers and it's all good.  Pictures will be coming later.

We originally planned on the regular 8/10 Diamondback and was set to order it in Dec.  But advice from the accountant said wait till the first of the year (for whatever reasons I didn't pay much attention to).  Then when Rich commented on Evo's post about his single station on Christmas Eve, about a new series Diamondback being unveiled at the Long Beach show, we called Rich to find out as much as we could.  After a nice chat with Rich we decided to wait the 3 weeks until the Long Beach show and get the show special.
So, it was ordered during the Long Beach show.  An 8/10 "B" package with the "show special" 9th head wired.

The truck showing up early threw us for a loop.  You can kinda see from the pic, we have a "nice" slope down to the rollup door.  Steeper than a regular forklift can get up & down.  (especially in the rain)  We had a lift with a telescopic boom reserved, which makes moving equipment in & out easy, and avoiding the slope all together, but the earliest we could get it was Wed.  And you can't rent fork extensions here.  We were planning on borrowing some from a customer that offered, but we couldn't get a hold of him.
Fortunately, the owner from the machine shop next door wandered over and offered his forklift/with extensions to get it off the truck (for a lunch).  But said there was no way he could get it down the slope and was worried about sinking in the gravel.  OK.  Let's just get the crates off the truck.
A quick trip to the rental place and picked up a pallet jack to start moving things inside to make room.  We were planning on borrowing one from a friend, but he was using it and couldn't get his to us until around 5:00.
After everything was off the truck the rain stopped.
Got the main unit uncrated and sitting on the slope on a pallet jack with everything  chained  to the forklift, then slowly let the forklift ease it down the slope and into the building.
Uncrated everything else outside and carried it into the building.
Our neighbor at the front of the building comes out and says if we cut the wood into manageable pieces, we can throw it in his truck and he'll take it to his burn pit.  (WooHoo!  6 pack for you!)
Get everything inside, wood cut up & cleaned up, and it starts raining again.  Friend shows up with his pallet jack (about 4:00).  Start re-arranging everything to try to get things in place.  Customer (from the one job that's supposed to be picked up today at 5), calls and says she can't get there until Tues. sometime after 3.  WooHoo!
Get everything burned and set up to run in the morning.
Tech is scheduled to be in next week.  Life is good again.

No new flash.  We already have a Red Chili that we got with our Chameleon about 3 yrs ago.

I would have put the main crate on the palette jack then backed a pick up or suv to it and slowly rolled it down the slope using the Vehicles power to control. What ever worked for you tho awesome.

Ain't nothing like getting a new toy to play for awhile, and M&R makes some pretty good stuff so I hear LOL.   Just wait until you tear into a 1K order you'll happy how quick it will go and you get to go home at a reasonable time.

I for one am disappointed. On other sites we get to see countless versions of pictures of the same thing, including the Penske stuck in the mud, and people pointing at signs and giving the finger. Guess you'll have to be content to have a new auto, delivered early no less, and time proven sound technology and service.
Oh well sometimes you have to settle!

To add to what Darryl said, wait until a gross of shirts blows by in few minutes. Be careful, bad prints can also pile up quickly.

Steve

And, congratulations of course

Yep, keep in mind that if your unloader doesn't catch the plug or pinhole, the next person to see it will be the dryer person, you'll have all the shirts in the dryer and all the shirts on the press. Those
 mistakes can happen FAST.

Did that when we first got our auto if you got one bad shirt at the unload, you may have a bunch in waiting.  allways run a test shirt first and check the dickens out if for any errors!!!!!!!!

That was the Boss' original idea.  But then the base unit would still be sitting on the pallet.  And we'd need the forklift to lift it off the pallet in the building.  Forklifts can't get up & down the ramp (stupid building design flaw!)  so it had to be completely uncrated outside.
Plus, if you've ever uncrated anything from M&R, the easiest way is to just carefully take a saws-all to the crates.  Which would have filled the shop with saw dust if it was done inside.  (as the Boss put it, "Check out the big brain on Bruce.  That's why I pay you the big bucks.")  I think he was trying to be funny & compliment me at the same time and completely missed the Pulp Fiction reference.

Tony, if it would make you feel better I could post a pic of me flipping you off for no reason.   ;D

We did come across one problem.  The press we ordered was supposed to have the 9th head wired option.  After popping the top off and looking, and some phone calls...this one is not.
Waiting to hear back on what will happen, whether Sean (tech) will wire it when he gets here or some sort of credit or something given.

The pre-wire was a special that we were doing and there was some confusion as production did not see it as a line item and did not wire your press for this feature. The tech that does the install will put the feature in. Our apologies!

Well, Sean (M&R tech) showed up a few hours earlier than expected on Monday and had the press pretty much together by Monday night.  He was really impressed that we actually followed the pre-checklist and had everything ready to go.  Told us some stories of some of the nightmares he'd walked into with shops not following it, and how it just slows everything down.  Hovered around him watching/helping/asking questions, but pretty much just let him do his thing and things went way faster than expected.  9th head option wiring harness showed up monday on UPS and he got that all put in.  There was a programming glitch that he fought with on tues. so we weren't able to actually print, but started training tues afternoon just dry cycling.  By Wed. morning the machine was reprogrammed and setting up the first job.  Boss looked like a little kid on Christmas morning watching the first shirt come off the press!  He's been waiting for this day for 30 years.

Found this in an old box.  Boss' first press, built from Fresener's plans in his original book. (which still sits on a shelf)
2nd pic is the first print off the press.
3rd is second job all by my lonesome.
Got a bunch from the install but I need to get them all rounded up & resized.

Nice one.
Just got word that our press will ship on the 13th of April. Got a long journey ahead, all the way to Japan.
Then the Hong Kong technician will fly in to set up that beauty.
Just counting the days, well sort of. Got so many things to take care of first. Setting up the new shop, etc.
