Title: Physicals suck
Post by: Printficient on April 12, 2012, 02:20:13 PM
Had mine a couple of days ago.  Today the Dr. himself calls to tell me that overall I am in decent shape.  Good cholesterol, not bad on heart and lungs.  Oh and by the way my PSA is almost 14.  OK what does that mean.  He tells me it should be 4 or less.  Having a prostate biopsy tomorrow.

Still too much chance of sub 70 degree temps where Pierre is.  Thanks though.

When I was new and young in the fire service I would have to go every other year for my physical.  When I turned 40 I had to go annually and started doing stress tests.  I thought that was a royal pain.  Now that I am older I look forward to my annual physical because if something is wrong they will find it there.  Good luck on your biopsy.  I will keep my fingers crossed that it is nothing.

there are some new studies going on with prostate issues. The new policy here (Cleveland is rather progressive when it comes to medicine) is to do very little even when the numbers are coming back elevated. The theory is that messing with it is causing more damage than the actual issue. Only most aggressive cancers/tumors are to be treated. This is obviously something you should talk to a doctor about, but I would research it more if I was you!

Just got back from my consult with my urologist.  Scheduled a biopsy/ultrasound.  He said at my age (50) the levels are alarming.  50/50 chance of it being cancer.  I will know more after my biopsy.  On a side note was given Xanax for the test. :o

Hope it is nothing serious.

And BTW, it called Xenon and not Xanax ;)

I am still working on the Xenon Shop Owner's Relaxation Kit.  1 Jar Shine and 24 MJ Incense sticks.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.

Good luck with it friend. I see my urologist every year, one can't be too careful. He doesn't even buy me dinner, if you know what I mean...

Last time I had one of those I was in grade school and the female nurse (not a very attractive one)had all us boys in a line stripped to our undies while she felt our sacks with her bare hands. Yup. I'll remember that forever.

They check from the inside, from the nearest available port; it's not a hernia check, aaarrrrgggghhhhh

My Dad just went through this whole deal. Spot radiation and hormones. The hormones were the worst of it. He gets hot flashes like a woman going through menopause. Over a year of that crap and he's finally clean. If you have to have cancer this is the one to have. Its one of the slowest growing and is slow to get out of the prostate. Stay positive Sonny!

Hey Sonny,

At least the biopsy is safer than taking a mesh order whilst driving across railroad tracks!!!! Ahem...

I'll presume you weren't actually driving!  You WERE the passenger, weren't you!?!

It was good to talk to you today, and I didn't know all this was going on, so best of luck!!

I've got an OLD hernia to look after myself.  Gettin' old aint for sissies!

Stan

PS  Do PM me if you can't read my Dreaded Card numbers you wrote down.

Yup. It's the dreaded "digital" exam. No "turn your head and cough".

Can't say it hurts, but it's not something to look forward to. I like the part where they tell you to "relax". Yeah.
Anyway, as Pierre mentioned, my doctor also said the current school of thought is the exams and the blood test often produce false positives that lead to more invasive action. That said, I know two people who had prostate cancer, and one of 'em is in the ground. The other guy got radioactive "seeds" poked in there to fix it. I told my doctor I'd err on the side of caution and get the exam 'cause I didn't want to expire from "blossom end rot" . . .

I especially like the part where the doctor tosses a box of tissues your way to clean your self up with as he walks out the door all the while your still in shock that some dude just rammed his finger up arse as your still bent over with your pants around your ankles, so violated and used...!  :D

They should give two tissues, one to clean up and one to wipe the tears out of your eyes.

Ok Sonny, my engraver is going through all of this right now.  You need to do everything they tell you to do and do not put anything off.  Don't put anything off till next week and do everything they tell you to do when they tell you to do it.  You have the PSA level that indicates that something is going on down there so do not take this lightly and you'll be just fine.
