Title: Methylene Chloride, where to get it?
Post by: Gilligan on April 12, 2012, 11:40:26 PM
That's about it.

Someone wrote down a name wrong... they wrote an "N" that looked a LOT like a "W".

I told them I'd fix it when I got some Methylene Chloride... now I just need to get some!

stahls sells it, but you can also try a paint store.

Most hardware stores sell it.

When removing some heat seal films, I find that rubbing with a clean cloth when wet helps remove the adhesive ghost that often lingers.

Also, if you have it, spotting fluid will remove most films.

It should be banned under the Montreal Protocol, it's seriously nasty stuff and degrades the ozone layer for fun.  Can't you find alternatives?

If you got one that works as well, then I'm all ears!

Maybe hugs, kisses and unicorns sliding down rainbows will get it off...  ;)

I don't even get Stahls's website... I tried to go there and do a few different things there and I just keep being brought in circles.

I gave up. LOL

Interesting.  I click on the link and it takes me to the methylethylbadstuff page.

What are you doing with it again?

For spot removal, we use SPIFF II from Albatross.  From my limited understanding of chemistry it appears to be some form of non-flammable lighter fluid... :o

Smells like ass but works pretty good and according to the msds, is far 'healthier' than anything else I could find.  I refused to allow a cleaning gun in the shop until I found this stuff.

And, as I said, spotting fluid will remove most vinyl and polyurethane films.

"Exposure to methylene chloride affects the nervous system (brain) and can cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, clumsiness, drowsiness, and other effects like those of being drunk."  Explains a lot about this board ;)

"Methylene chloride causes cancer in animals and potentially can cause cancer in humans. Methylene chloride causes lung and liver tumors, and mammary (breast) tumors in animal studies."

So does Aspartame but I bet a bunch of you drink up that crap everyday!

I don't plan on using this every day or a ton of it or in manners that will require me to breath in a ton of the fumes.  Probably use a q-tip and use it and be done with it.

That's why I homebrew.  Lots of anecdotal evidence saying it's even more dangerous--and tasty.

CCI SR-97 and SPIF sub dichloromethane--is that better?  (Hint:  it's the same thing)

Aspartame?  What are you trying to do?  You can't clean out ink with that.  You can't catch a buzz off that.  It's worthless.   ;D
