Post by: virgil427 on April 13, 2012, 12:37:52 PM
Just up sold two jobs with foil, I've don't have any experience with foil, is there a good suplier out there thats resonable on price, is there a foil mfg. that is better than another? I do have heat presses and my supplier carries wilflex foil adhesive. any advise will be appreciated.

Some suppliers carry this I always buy direct and bypass the middleman. Just google them for the contact. Nat is whom I've dealt with previously. Ask him for some samps they are usually free. They have a lot more than gold and silver

I'll second Crown Leaf.
also, make sure your glue is pretty thick to get good adhesion. We often print flash print to build it up. 80 mesh would probably be a good choice . . .

I have a hard time with selling foil. Make sure to tint the ink or glue you print so when the foil comes off the shirt still looks good. What do you guys tell your clients about how long the foil will last. I say 20 to 40 washes. Am I wrong here? Anyone have a foil shirt that lasted longer?

One of the drawbacks. Large vector images of foil usually don't hold up to the laundering process however they will do better if they are turned inside out. Halftones and distressed images will hold up longer. BTW I usually charge a buck xtra for this. The labor is killer, the foil is cheap.

thanks for the replies, I called crown roll and Nat hooked me up their prices are great, it's good to know about how long the foil will last on a shirt and a dollar is what I quoted just shooting from the hip good to know I didn't shoot myself in the foot like usual

I charge 2 and make sure you tell the customer the best way to care for foiled garments.

If you use plastisol as your glue, do you have to cure the ink completely or you can get it close and cure it while heat pressing the foil?
I ordered some samples from Crown leaf and I wanted to try it with plastisol.

Thanks

Jake just hasn't been pulling his weight, and by canning him, you will free up precious resources for the foil part of the operation.

Tony thanks for the hook up with Nat great guy answered all my questions can't believe the size of samples stuff is easy to work with 325 for 10 seconds and your there.
Dennis( or Jake) let us know how it works for you I used plastisol to see if I could do this before I purchase adhesive it was a lot easier than I thought

We print with thermoline clear ink, send down the dryer like a normal t-shirt them foil with the heat press. Simple. That glue is a pain to deal with.
