Title: dilemma ...showing your stuff....
Post by: whitewater on April 16, 2012, 11:31:33 AM
I was at the persons place who does my embroidery. She had a hat that she did for one of my customers in her case to show. I didn't like that..When I do contract work for her or someone else I dont put up pictures or show that i did them. I would think its just rude. What happens if that customer just happened to walk in there and saw that?

Am i overreacting?

if she had nuts i'd kick her there...she drives me nuts

A word to the wise (or professional) should be sufficient.

It should be common courtesy to not show contract work at all.

Rob

good chat..but like I said we have 1 garment in the showroom that is contract and we asked if we could showcase it. ( it is a full back embroidery)  the guy had no problem, but with his day to day stuff, it is his and both of us want to keep it that way...

this is unprofessional and you should have a talk with her.  that is your customer.

I think if its a local customers work that you contracted to her she shoukld not be displaying the cap. we do alot of contract work for people in other southeast states and i have no problem displaying shirts of some of those prints. now something like putting them on the website i would ask permission.

I'd be upset... especially if the digitizing was done out of their house.

Basically they are bragging that they can hoop a garment and push a button... someone else did the artwork!

I've only done one contract job (it was actually embroidery) and I had completely forgotten that I had done it even.  The wife and I were eating at a restaurant and she said "did you see, so and so"  I was like well, I saw him but I don't know her.  "Yes, you do... you did that embroidery work for her"  I sat there for a minute completely puzzled to she reminded me details of their situation.  LOL  We had even discussed the possibility of me taking over their contract work and I barely remember it.  Point is that is how contract work should be I think... do the job and you are done... gone!

If its a cool print or cool art I ask. Other than that I keep all our brokers work hidden and I expect the same from the people I outsource embroidery to.

I mostly deal with "wholesale only" vendors so it does not come up often.....But when I do deal with vendors that do retail work, I make it very clear they may not display my work....

We post our contract work only with permission, it's just polite, not to mention professional. We get some mighty nice stuff to print sometimes, and it's fun to show off, but not without permission. Did I mention getting permission?
