My wife and I , with about 5 other families from our church, will be going real far away.

It is about 3 miles from our house.
We love it.

find it amazing noone said taking time out to think about the men and women who have served and lost their lives in order for us to have the lives we do....guess it is just a holiday to have a BBQ
sad...

Planting American flags on graves.
Cleaning up the shop.
Out on the boat.
Random block parties Sat and Sun nights.

Socalfmf is right.
We need to remember our troops and the men and women who have died for our freedom.

and that is why I will be hanging out with my WW2 veteran grandfather and celebrating an early birthday for him

Sam just because no one piped up in a timely fashion for you does not mean none of us actual think of the holiday as just a bbq day.
Take me for instance, I worked for a large cemetery for five years when younger every memorial day we had one of the largest memorials in a section for fallen soldiers, it is a huge affair with stages to be built etc. Even tho i have not worked for the cemetery in 18 years I still volunteer my time every Sunday and Monday of memorial day weekend and help do the set up as well as plant several thousand flags.
My father is a vet I take it seriously and i knew people close that have not come home from Iraq and never will.

Mike
this is just not here..it is the AMERICAN mentality that "yeah it is a 3 days weekend" yahoo....Just really pisses me off....
how about lets recognize what the holiday is....
-
Every one here is all jacked up because it's a 3 day weekend but not one of them has mentioned why. I'll be working but thinking about what this weekend means. I can't wait to start teaching my son about why we even have some of these holidays and the sacrifices others have made. Giving your life for your country is about as heavy as it gets, I can't even imagine having to do some of the things our service men and women have done. Believe me, it's much appreciated in my household.

I will definitely thank my Lord and Savior for the ones who have lost there lives and thier families sacrafice for my freedom. I try to remember the past and present ones in each of my prayers. We take for granted that we have the freedom we have because of the sacrafice others have gave. Our country has fallen a ways but I would rather live here than anywhere else! Oh yeah gonna hang out with the family and grill some good old BBQ Chicken, slow cooked

I'll be working as I have for the last 30 plus Memorial weekends, but ever mindful of those who served and the loved ones who have passed.

Man mother inlaw in ICU weekend turning out bad, seems like when I plan a zero work weekend it gets blown off track with stuff no one wants to deal with Families are rough trying to do the right thing. Have you ever noticed how many printed shirts there are in a hospital?
