Title: I No Longer Dread Team Numbers or Player Names....
Post by: Fresh Baked Printing on May 18, 2011, 06:34:32 PM
I used to print team numbers with paper stencils and gang print names. Since I've "discovered" the ease of screen printed transfers, I actually look foward to the price and business team tees bring in.
Not sure if the transfers are for everything but man, what a relief!

Done it for decades on T's
but we use Stahl's pre cut now for consistancy.

Too many different fabrics out there these days.

I've done dark ink transfers successfully, but I have a job I do every Fall with names and numbers, and half the job is golden yellow on royal blue tees. Getting an even layer of ink that registers to a white underbase, or even a print/flash/print, has dogged me, so I use cadcut material on my cutter, but that stuff is running about $2.50 a running foot. The consistency is great, though.

If you want to save money on the material, and don't mind a little more layout work (very little actually) lay it out Frog free-style.
I rarely lay out a name and number as a set, but choose rather to lay out as many cuts as will fit on the sheet, cut, and position each component.

Since I also use a lot of die-cut, I'm used to this.

I showed one of my last layouts in this thread (http://www.norwb.com/index.php?topic=322.0).

We have a numbering machine, but we cad cut the names. We do a lot of numbering. For some jobs, we use Transfer Express' screen printed 2 color numbers, which work really well on just about all fabrics. My 2?...

Does anyone ever bitch about the "difference" between the name and the number? Part of this job I do is royal blue ink, and if I thought they wouldn't complain about any slight difference, I'd print number transfers and cut the names on that portion.

We try to match the ink to the film, or, we've printed the names as transfers with the same ink as the rest of the printing...

I have three different golden yellow inks for when the print and custom name are close together.
I am in the process today of a gold screenprint on front, and die cut numbers on the back, and a perfect match isn't as important.

Ask 'em for a sample!
In years past, they had packages made out to see, try out,  and compare all of their offerings, but be sure to mention the product you want, just to be sure.
