I reciently manualy punched in a CC for a large order 4500.00 , Square released 1200.00 of it and is splitting up the rest into groups of 1200.00 per month, In the mean time I have to get these shirts ordered , Ive only been able to order 1/2 have try and borrow some money from family to cover the second 1/2 of the order. Effin' laaaaaame! The job is due next Wednesday!

I'm glad I haven't heard of "Square Up". I don't think I'd ever use them if that's their policy. It's tough enough to keep capital on hand to order shirts, ink, etc. the way it is now without anyone holding funds that you need for supplies.
-
You need to set up some terms with your vendors.
-
I am beginning to see a trend, of either (choose one)
1. a big increase in the ease of fraudulent transactions and all of these virtual money handlers wanting to cover their butts at our expense, or,
2. they are just more high tech usurers taking us for whatever they can before their decent to the seventh circle of Hell as in Dante's Inferno.
And yes, Shawn, every professional screen printer needs credit with at least one main supplier. Thirty days should not be tough (unless, of course, you had that and blew it)

I know! wtf is this Shawn?! you pay COD? damn man, get with it.
-
There's a link/form on their site to request higher limits. I had an account for a while and had to request a higher limit last month. I didn't even fill out some of more detailed sales info and they increased it anyway. Even released the previous funds that I would have waited another few weeks to get.
-
Intuit Go Payment has been holding funds longer than normal but I am switching to a "real" merchant service, cause the fees for square and gopayment are killer. I'm also getting terms with our shirt vendors to not tie up my money.
-
That is key in this business... OPM! Other Peoples Money! If set up right you don't have to use any of your cash to purchase blanks.
-
WTF...guess shawn has been too busy the past 5 yrs to come and get help...I laugh at stuff like this...keep doing what you are doing cause you make us all look so good.....hahahahhahahah
shawn...when are you going to grow up, run a business and make some real money?

It's not hard to get terms, heck, i got 60 day terms at Bodek.

Even regualr merchant accounts hold funds if your credit score is not the best...

Monthly though? I can see a few days but breaking it up into months is crazy

With a bad credit score, he probably has a maximum monthly deposit amount. i am sure it's in his terms of service.

Just remembered that there were 2 forms. 24 hours after the first one was submitted, another one popped up with a few more personal questions on it. I just filled in a few fields, since all of them weren't required. Money/limit was cleared within 2 days of the second form.

I have been operating for almost 4 years and I don't use distributor credit or 30 days. I started the business that way and just don't see an advantage. I am sure there are some but doing it this way keeps me out of trouble. If I had the 30 days I would order shirts more without having a deposit and take jobs that have lower margins more. I am not trying to say it’s not a good Idea. I have been offered 30 days from all my suppliers but I just done use it. What are the advantages? Why is it bad not to use them? I can’t be the only one that runs their company this way.
-
You could look at like you get your profit up front with a 50% deposit and then pay for the shirts when your customer pays you the balance.

What kind of personal questions? Do they credit check you?

I've heard that running cards through your bank is a bad idea you want your money coming in and your bank to be separate , but my bank like many others do offer a cc program I just have to purchase or lease their stupid card swiper and a 40 a month fee. Thoughts?

One of my suppliers offers 3% "cash discount" if you don't use credit card. They have COD, but that is an extra $11 bucks... now if you have Net terms with them you can get the 3% AND avoid the COD charge.
That's one benefit.
-
I believe that all of my garment suppliers charge somewhere between 1.5 and 3% more on credit cards (as I do with my new Paypal invoices).
In California, it is not legal to up charge for Credit Cards, so it needs to be shown as a loss of cash discount.

Customer does a deposit and I pay with that. I do about 80% basic tees so the 50% more than covers the shirts. Most of the time they pay the deposit with Paypal from my website. It takes a day or two to get into my account. I buy the shirts as orders come in. I do about 2 to 3 orders of shirts a week and pay with a check. The check takes a day or two to clear so no issues. (I have more than enough money in the account to cover the chance paypal take a day longer or the checks clear sooner.)
I have been thinking about starting a 30 day pay but it just hasn't been a problem yet.

They did the same for me..I'm at 2500.00 per week now..They are very easy to communicate with.

After reading comments on this Square review , if i'm lucky enough to get my money I'm never using them ever again! It's been 48 hours+ still no email from these people.
Avoid Sqaure like the plague!!!

We really never had any problems.
I've done several payments of over 1k and a few over 2k and never once had an issue. Usually the card is not available for those purchases (wholesale customers in other cities).
We've since been offering "cash discounts" to those customers if they write us a check on delivery and they usually opt for that. We've also moved unto a "real" terminal processing service for that business and don't deal with Square much. But when we did, it worked well for us.

I would feel much better if they had a customer service hotline, not having one is a HUGE turn off! Square is holding enough money to put me under if they force me to wait out the 30 days, so I'm getting VERY nervious.

No credit check. Questions were like: What do you expect the new average charge to be?, What's the largest charge you expect, What percentage of your sales are through credit cards, annual sales, etc. I left it all blank as it wasn't required-- bizarre that they allowed it.
I had a regular merchant account and converted over to Square. I'm good at deciphering bills, but geez you needed a degree in accounting to understand the mess of a statement each month. I felt it was intentionally cryptic--it looked like they were making exceptions, in their favor, to the percentages they received.
Square's account is very easy to understand. My only gripe is that I wish they would take the fees out in one charge at the end of the month. They take them out as you go and I have to add extra entries in quickbooks to track the expense and payments received.

If your using quick books consider intuit's GoPayment. Forgive me if it's been mentioned. I have been nothing but pleased with the service and also their web interface. It's also a tad cheaper in 90 percent of payment scenarios.

Intuit had some pretty nasty customer reviews as well , they all suck really... but at least they have a customer service number.
I'm still waiting for Square's email repsonce.... mofo's

When a company handles money they often have some pretty negative reviews because people can get pretty bent out of shape pretty easily and their the ones that tend to yell the loudest. My experience has been stellar they have even been better then with my PayPal account who keeps reviewing and holding payments over 100 bucks. I even tried payanywhere and ran away once I saw they had no online interface or statement functions. All of these companies have a lot to work in before they are really more then casual payment solutions. Then again so do merchant services providers and their infinite fees and monthly rates for the priveledge of collecting a cut of every sale. Just start tweeting about square sucking and I bet your issue gets resolved. Yay for the founder of twitter starting a financial service lol.
Hope it gets sorted soon for you.

Exactly... I've had a great experience and yet I didn't go write a review... I'm happy with my current provider but I didn't write a review. But you can damn well bet that if I had problems I'd be shouting from the mountain tops about them. That's the nature of man.
That's what the book Customer Satisfaction is Worthless (recommended on this site) is all about. A satisfied customer will just go about his business and MAY come back if it works for him. But they won't rant and rave about your business. A loyal customer will... you have to work hard to get a loyal customer. A pissed off customer will also rant and rave about your business... and it's not hard to make those kind of customers.

If your credit "sucks" pretty much every company will cause you grief from time to time......
-
It took a month but I finally have my money and limits raised to 3 grand a week. Not sure if I want to risk still using them...
-
i haven't switched yet, but I am looking at a company called unibul that is 1.89% flat rate, period. I am still digging through the paperwork to find the hidden fees.

LUK (Let us know) :)

Brad I forgot the exact rates right now, but I think I have one with a 1.29 for "qualified" rates and .99% for debit cards. Up to 1% more for other cards... I think it's actually been some 2.99's but that might be keyed and I might be mistaken. Can't find a statement or the paper work right now. (busy/lazy/reorganizing paperwork... take your pick).
