I've always used yellow bulbs for my dark room. anything else i should be looking at?
-
I've always used yellow sleeves with ordinary bulbs. Heck of a lot cheaper.
-
just discovered the sleeves, and at a local shop! picking them up tomorrow!

we have screw in florescent bug bulbs, very bright last long, and do not affect your un-exposed emulsions at all.

We use the same thing in our screen room. No affect on the emulsion what so ever.

It is nice to work for a company that went from dark room set-up to all digital (My full time job)
Guess where all the yellow fluorescent lights went??
You are right! I think I still have a full box of them (6 or 8 pieces), just in case the ones I installed go bad.

When I started, I thought I needed a special dark room with yellow bulbs........now I do all my work in my basement with normal lighting with no problems. I put the screens in a box with a cloth cover.

I walked into the Goodwill store to appease my wife. Walked right into a couple red sleeves for the tubes. Probably a little too dark but should work. $1.00 each.
Last week on Craigs list I picked up
Bakers rack (holds 18 screens)
2 brand new frames with 110 mesh,
2 different sized scoop coaters,
bunch of quart sized waterase inks
generic emulsion (quart)
2 sizes of brand new squeegee's.
All for $100.00

screens are fine under regular fluo. lights. It's a lot nicer to work in.

For a few years I had rubylith covering the diffuser panels in the darkroom. Freaked everybody out when they walked in. I finally broke down and bought the yellow tube sleeves. Much easier to work in.

Get out of the dark ages people.. dark rooms are for developing photo negatives.. not working with screens. Paint the walls white while you're at it and mop the floor now and then.

I use a 60w cfl in my "dark" room. I like to see what I am doing.

The dark room is my only sanctuary from the storm outside. I like the calming of yellow bug bulbs,
necessary or otherwise.
