just a quick thought. . . or two.
-if you wanted numbers, you could us text on curve.
-pretty sure you could create a brush to do the dots
or
-use the blend tool to have a fixed number of dots and then use the replace spine tool.

Matt I have a script that will divide paths into segments. It does it based on how many you want regardless of path length but I rewrote it to work based on distance of the segment you want and it auto figures it out regardless of the distance of the path.

Sounds like a rhinestone program would almost work but im just guessing.

That's what I modified that script for... I follow it up with a second script that changes segment points to "duplicate" an item (which I make the circle for a rhinestone cut)... never used it yet, but I got it working. :)

I have some spot color dots on a brush path. It's important to make sure you start out with spot colors (pantone colors) when creating the brushes. Otherwise they won't separate out nice. I'll see if I can make a vi tutorial on it.

I am a total rookie. When I made a brush it follows the outside of the image. It looks like this. I really want something more like a connect the dots.
I really want something more like the second image.
I appreciate the help.

R-Stones may do what you need. Its a macro that converts any image or text to stones which are basically perfect circles.

is that a plug in or a stand alone product?

its a plug in for Corel. Not sure if it will work for AI. You can find it at macromonster.com its only $49.

Or rstones.ru

In Corel, there is a dropdown in the Outlines dialog box that allows this. I have used this to simulate stitching. But I guess that doesnt apply here... ::)

You want a dotted line?
Select your stroke and under the STROKE flyout menu, click DASHED LINE. Give your line a 12 pt stroke, then under the DOTTED LINE choices give it a 1pt Dash and a 20pt Gap or so. Then make the CAPs rounded (see the squares under WIEGHT? It's the middle one.
You can make adjustments, like spreading the dots out, by fiddling with the line weight and DASH and GAP settings.

Very clever.

I tried the dashed outline. It comes out like one of the images I posted. It is outlining the entire letter, not a fill for connecting the dots...
I can not thank you all enough for the input.
