Title: Anyone Use Murakami SP-1400?
Post by: Prosperi-Tees on August 18, 2012, 12:08:59 AM
Thoughts on it? Water resitance? Stencil build? Quirks? Shelf life?

Sp-1400 is a great emulsion if you do both discharge and plastisol printing. It is extremely durable, I have ran 20,000 plus discharge runs using this emulsion with 2-1 sharp edge coating and never had breakdown, The only issue I see with it is super fine detail has to be shot harder during blowout than say qt discharge or Hvp. It's worth a try it is half the price of other emulsions and holds up to waterbase/discharge better than anything I have ever used.

We only use it for waterbase / discharge ink.  Stencils can last an insane amount of time and don't have issues during the run at all. Typically use a 150S with it.

I just went through my first gallon of it and I have to agree with the above. You do have to hit it pretty hard to get out the real fine detail so I think it is going to be a WB only for us.

How are the exposure times?

Anyone using sp1400 call Murakami and ask them for dye,
If you dye it darker it allows you to hold 3-5% dots much easier and
Blows out much better when washing out. I am pretty sure the light color causes the area behind your film
To get exposed a little. We have super dark films and it still happens but I can say if you want a super strong emulsion that's cheap try it out. Our exposure time is between 50LTU for 196-230 down to 25LTU and we are using a 5,000 watt lamp.

Been using it for about 6 months now and my only complaint other than slow burn time (5 minutes, 240 watt flouros) is that it is pretty thin.

If your using anything under a 5 k it will be slow.

Instead of adding the dye for detail stuff Photocure Pro is the sh!t. You better have clean glass it will pic up the finest piece of dust or anything else out there. Crazy hi resolution. It will resolve everything.
