Title: Cash is King!
Post by: dave58 on August 23, 2012, 12:21:52 PM
After what seems like 988 months of paying the credit card unit lease....it craps out 2 months after my lease is up......and oh yeah....big coin to purchase a new one.

Thats it...i am done with the scam....they make a lot of money off transactions.....freekin units should be free for what they rake in.

DONE!....cash or local check only.....there is an ATM 30 feet away if they dont have the cash.

yeah I know....but i get a fair amount of retail purchase for schools and tourism....so we did the cc thing.

but not any more!.

OK....rant complete and new policy in place.

Dave we had lease a credit card machine once and told them to come and pick it up a year later and just bought our own machine which they said can be undated as data changes, cheaper by far than the lease.

When shopping around......."I will need to see 3 months history of your processing so I can best determine your needs." = you mean how much you can gouge me.

pffft....nope...cya....cash baby.

I can recommend a company.  They bent over backwards to get my measily business... in fact they went TOO far.  They are holding up their end but I did have to fight a bit because they promised things they weren't supposed to.  (No PCI Compliance fee for example).

Other than getting them to honor their way to eager's sales staff's promises it's been great.  UBER low fees and ZERO yearly/monthly fees for equipment or anything.  No contract, nothing... AND free equipment.  Plus after trying to reel us in for a few weeks they through in a $50 gift card if we signed up by the end of the month (we were already ready to pull the trigger when they through us that bone). ;)

Let me know if anyone wants that info and I'll hook you up... full disclosure, I do get a referral reward but we seriously searched and searched for the right deal... my wife REALLY did her home work.

Iphone swipers for the sales staff. We got them through our bank. I have one as do my reps. The square is a ripoff but we got a great deal from our bank with their program.

Yeah the company I use has a few options for mobile.  Including one that hooks up via bluetooth and prints out a receipt for them to sign just like if you were in your shop.

I use square up for the iPhone, yeah it's a little expensive per transaction but I don't use it that much.

Yeah, that happened to us too a long time ago. Live and learn the hard way.

I have maybe 100.00 cash in the drawer. we never touch money anymore. it's all just moving numbers around. pay bills online, process CC payments. hardly anyone has cash.  hell, I haven't have cash my wallet since all those singles from that one crazy night :o .  yada yada yada, I woke up wearing a knit cap, a trash bag and for some reason I had "somewhere over the rainbow" stuck in my head. . . .crazy kids

Folding money may not be the choice any more, but you still got to have it in some cases

Yep.  It's part of doing business these days.  Figure out the worst you'll have to pay as a % of sales, put it in your projections, find a merchant account processor who's respectable and reasonable and go print some shirts.

I like the cc payments for no other reason than it gets clients paying on time.  I offer to run the card over the phone when they approve an order for example and there you go.

Do I agree that, as an industry, cc processors are virulent leeches on the caliber of insurance providers and should be practically eliminated from our economy?  Yes, I do.  They do deserve a fee for their services, they have much work to do on the security and logistical end of this while we happily swipe away, but that fee is too high most times  when you consider the scale here.  Think about it...1.5-3% of all card transactions on the planet go into that industry.

We just use square.  I figure in the 2.75 % transaction fee.  I had a real credit card machine with a real processing company.  The problem with them was the regular service fee whether you used it or not.  Oh boy, then came the "cancel the service time".  It took 3 days to cancel the service from the company.  We were transferred to at least 5 different people only to be told the the one responsible for helping us cancel our service, didn't take incoming calls "how convenient" and would have to call us back "which by the way Never happened.  So after 3 days of calling we finally got our service cancelled.

The square is a ripoff. I have our swipers with B Of A. Way better rates than the square and most other companies that we have looked at. It really pays to shop around for good rates.

If I could get rid of the PCI compliance fee that would be great. It makes me sick how much I pay to the bank to process credit card transactions. Any help is appreciated.

this year has been a huge year for cash.  I love it.  we do mostly checks, but a lot of people like to pay with CC's.

We use Paypal for the majority of our transactions.. Just send customer a payment link and have them sign in as guest and "Walaaa"! For the more old school customers who are afraid of internet transactions we use our traditional merchant processor who charges us right under 2%... For the old school complicated accounting departments who don't have a P. Card we allow checks.. Very seldom do we see cash.. Also, with the paypal account, we have a paypal debit mastercard that gives us access to our funds without the 2-3 day delay when transfering to the bank. This process has really helped our receivables because with the paypal transactions, we get our funds instantly...

Well, the sales girl that called us was trying too hard to get our business and promised us everything we asked including no PCI-compliance fees.

Then I noticed a $99 charge on our bank statement for PCI-Compliance and picked up the phone call.  They tried to say that they couldn't remove it but I forwarded some emails that showed that that was exactly what I was promised and they refunded it and said we wouldn't see those charges any more. :)

We dumped our previous merchant service and swiper they were ripping us off.

First problem they would tack on charges for minor things like a zip code missing
They would charge more for manually entering card numbers versus a swipe.
Then to break the camels back, they charged $800 for the swiper broken down in to ten months of $80 payments. Well several months passed the ten month mark and they kept charging finally the boss caught on and called them up, they tried to actually say the $80 was for ever as a rental fee not a purchase WTF he fought with them to get reimbursement and finally told the to piss off.

We now use a new service through our main bank with next to nothing for fees and never a hassle on any thing.

Point is bankers promise the world but the banks them selves never honor what the sales guy promised, they get the hook in you then they got you.

That's typical and I'm sure all of them charge that.  Higher risk without having the card in hand.
