Title: Distressed/faded look on red?
Post by: ericheartsu on October 04, 2012, 04:11:48 PM
I have a client that wants to do a distressed/faded look on red tees, but i'm not really sure how to do it, as it's white ink!

any tips?

2 things,

1,  use a bitmap distressed aged texture to knock out to the garment color. (Shows age).

2,  Print it on high mesh with thin inks and allow it let the garment come through for shadowing. Gives a more aged weathered. (worn) look. Many printers might look at this and say it's a mistake but it's part of the trend process. In addition, to make it even better, use another white screen on top that will be adjusted in the curves to burn out the light parts so that it shows depth.

Do a half a$$ed job on the art, the film, and the exposure. Then handle the squeegee like it's a turd. Instant distressed look.
Actually, one thing I've seen posted but never tried is to take some paper, wad it up, sort of flatten in out, then affix it to your platen. Do this for each platen. Then start loading shirts. The wrinkles will be a bit different on each print on that platen, and the platens won't match so it'll look less like a fixed pattern.

Why would White on Red be any different than Black on White?

Same processes.

It's in the Waterbase/Discharge section, so it's 50/50, a better bet than anything in the casinos.

FYI, red discharges great, G2000, 979, 779, all work really well. . .somebody once said, back in the day they used to not rinse out the screens all the way. I think it was TP.

there are free distressed filters all over the net. . .

Red is a "b" on the dischargability chart which is acceptable. The scale is " a thru c". I have done it. It discharges well just not excellent.

yeah i just printed discharge on red and black g2000, both worked well, white and black ink on red shirts and white and red on black.  black shirts get an A, but id have to agree the red's get a solid B.  not super bright white, but still nice and totally acceptable.
