Title: tape from uline
Post by: sportsshoppe on December 14, 2012, 03:13:29 PM
I ordered some tape from Uline the other day and it was just the Uline economy type and it really SUCKS! It leave a redidue on the screens even if only being left on for a couple of hours. I have read where some of the post here say they use the Uline for ordering screen tape, can you let me in on which tape it is? Thnks in advance

we use the 3mill uline "natural rubber adhesive" it's awesome. their economy stuff will gunk up your screens big time, but the natural rubber adhesive tape leaves no residue, peels off easy, we even use it for taping the inside of frames for water based printing with no issues. It's all about the adhesive used on the tape. We used to use PMI, but the price of it and if you have a warm shop or leave it near a heat source, the adhesive gets really nasty.

That is the stuff I use. Its works great. The reason its not load is becuase its really hard to pull off the roll. That glue is super sticky.

I messed up once and bought a case of tape with acrylic based adhesive.  "That's gonna leave a mark" certainly applied to that boo boo.  I thought I was NEVER going to get my frames and mesh cleaned up.

It wound up in a drawer we use for boxing up finished shirts to ship to out of town customers, which surprisingly, we don't do that much of.  Many of our customers are local, I guess.

Last fall, I decided to get a case from 3 different vendors to compare (all rubber based) and I have made a decision.

The Uline referenced above seems identical to Ship-Paq , but the Ship-Paq was a bit cheaper when I ordered.  Call Marie 513-860-0700.  Marie will split a case of 3" and 2" now and again, if you need. Uline is 1 day UPS ground shipment for me, so IF I got in bind I wouldn't hesitate to use them.  They send out too many catalogs, and customer service is very good. But Ship-Paq gets the nod, thanks to Roger and Pierre...AGAIN....

Tape-Zit (Ed Mullins-what a nice guy!) in Lawrenceville Ga 770-962-4395 has a good tape and it is economical. It unspools a little hard for me, since I prefer 3".  In the 2" width the difference is negligible.  I like the slightly frosty finish, but I likely won't reorder 3" because of the hard unspooling.  It might tear accidentally just a skoshe more than the other, but I haven't decided for sure. That can matter on a manual press, since I at least, often move ink around from the edges and if I push too hard doing that, I can get a rip.  Not good with fresh (ie. runny) discharge inks....

Besides the 3" Ship-Paq I will reorder 3" White from North Country Tape and Poly, In Carlsbad Ca. 760-753-8273  I like it for taping my squeegees. Since I am still a manual only shop, taping squeegees helps with the way I clean up.  I am using those Ergo-Force Squeegee handles and they tape soooo easy with this tape.  I also use it to tape over certain images I gang together on one screen, since I've never seen a single instance of adhesive residue with this tape.  It also comes in clear, but the white makes for quick identification when grabbing for a dispenser.

But it HAS GOT TO BE rubber based adhesive.

Sorry you missed that.  We had a huge discussion on rubber based tapes here a while back with all kinds of links including Uline.
