Title: Hello from Spreading Ink
Post by: Spreading Ink on February 02, 2013, 02:00:11 AM
Well seems like quite a few folks have migrated here and some of you probably know me.  For those that don't I'm Dave from Spreading Ink.  We are located in Temecula, CA and have been around 2005.  We do about 70% contract and 30% custom, all over, water base and discharge daily and have been doing higher end simulated process since we got started.  The largest majority of our work (these days) goes into retail markets from big box retailers to some pretty good sized net based companies.

I stay pretty busy and don't have the time that I did back in the day of the old 'boards' at screenprinters.net, but promise to try to swing by once and a while and say 'hi' to all.

We have our fourth press being delivered next week - guess we have come a ways since our garage days :)!

Anyway - nice to be here and look forward to helping where and if I can and look forward to reconnecting with some old friends and screen print family as well :)

Thanks,

Dave

Hey Dave,
Great to see you on here! Crazy, I was just about to email you with some questions but I can do that later. I am the guy that met you at ISS a couple of weeks ago that kinda' had a freak out that it was you since I have been following your shop online for a long time. People here on the forum - Spreading Ink does amazing, amazing stuff! While a lot of us on here do water base and discharge every day these guys and gals do it on a very large scale and with very large prints. Check out their website for sure. Glad you are here Dave and have a great weekend!

- Brandon

Great to finally see you find your way here Dave, and it was nice to also meet you and Michelle a couple of weeks back in Long Beach.

Hey, now that you're big time, let's talk banner ad for you guys!  ;D

Hi Dave,

It's great to see your post here. As I've always said you do great work and an inspiration to other start up shops. A real beginners story. It's also great to see a married couple so"equally" invested into the company from what I've seen and heard. I hope my wife can stick with me and my bad habits long enough to see it's worth it. :)

I've done some business with Dave and Michelle and we've stayed in a little through out the years. It's been rewarding to see them flourish so well. They make it look easy.

I've been to the shop while out visiting relatives in San Diego and even back then it was well run early on. The two of them have it together. Each time working with them has been as professional as it can get. Quality printing, professional experience and great people.

Hey, and as Andy mentioned, a banner add may be well worth it's money to remind others here that when they may need water based all over's or discharge all overs, they know where to look. Lowest priced banners in the industry from what I've seen so far and to a key target audience.  Is that a shameless plug?  Prob. is. Sorry. :)

Again, good to see you and talk to you.

Dan

Hey - I remember that print!  Fun time doing that one with the mixed media of water base, plastisol and clear gel.

Thanks for all of the kind plugs and greetings - nice to be here - I will try to drop by often - it does get busy around here though - do the best I can though.  Frog is was a real pleasure to finally meet you as well (for the second time I think - weren't you at the beach house last year as well?)  - Dan thanks for the kudos good to catch up with you recently.

As for the banner ad...we don't do too much advertising really these days, but whomever is in charge - feel free to contact me and we'd consider it.   :D

Been doing a little looking around since signing up looks like a good place to be.

Ha!  with only 3 post, you haven't seen the half of it. :)  We've got the good stuff behind the scenes. You'd need some more post to get in + a secret password. I don't know what that is. Frog won't tell me. :-\

Wow, been a busy week and I haven't been on too much.  Got a 14 color press installed this past week (it's a monster - belt driven Anatol Pegasus II) we have some good (and fast) operators, but this machine will put anyone to shame!

Had our 12 color press throw a drive bolt on the indexer on Friday and is being repaired tomorrow (we have had this press since almost the beginning and it has well over 3M prints on it - and most of the time - still prints really strong with great registration.  Looking forward to getting it back up and into operation tomorrow.

Anyway it has been a pretty hectic week/time, but I am hoping things 'calm down' some soon and things get back to normal!

Good to see so many familiar faces from along the way here!  Command Z, John Sheridan - good to see you guys - catch me up sometime on how it goes.  Brandon - sorry I did not mean to ignore your welcome at all and as previously stated your welcome to give me a ring or drop an e-mail anytime.  Hi JayzTee - the name - well to be honest it came about by thinking I was 'spreading ink' (meaning spending money on checks) all over town back when we first started - we've spent a lot more along the way these days, but it was scary back in the day when we started out to spend the small amount we did to get started.

Lemoris - always a pleasure to hook up with you even for a short bit.

Thanks for the warm welcome - I'll try not to be a stranger, but with the days I have been having lately it's tough to find time to 'hang out'.

Thanks again!

Dave

Hey Dave, I was talking to a guy today that told me you guys are buying 5 gallons of some pigment colors. That was shocking to me. It sure was inspiring to know people are doing that much discharge. Can't wait to read your posts on discharge. Welcome to TSB.

Hi Jon/Daryl,

Jon, yes we buy some pigments in fives - not all, but some - we regularly buy drums of discharge bases too - all over prints take a lot of ink in the screens to print (the screens measure 59 x 48 it takes a bit of ink to get them running.   We print water base/discharge daily (and plastisol most / a lot of days) as well.  We had done some water base and discharge prior to getting into doing all over prints (wow - five years ago now this spring), but they really are a necessity for doing a good job with those prints and it was just a natural progression to use them more and more.  We have several clothing lines that are done with almost 100% water base inks, all of our operators use them and it's just a part of doing business around here.

Daryl,  yes - the shop is pretty red except for that 'old' stratus which is still purple people eater color :)  All of our presses have quite a bit of work thrown at them and they perform really well.  Our 16 color can do all over prints as well (although with only 7 prints heads) and our 8 color Trident was made to do them so it's a pretty large press - about 26 foot in diameter.  The newest press is a 20 x 28 print area belt driven indexer - there is a video of it (yes our actual press) running in Chicago for it's pre-delivery testing on the Anatol TV link at the bottom of their webpage.  We haven't had it installed a full week yet, but so far we are loving it - and the operator loves a lot of the features that come with a belt driven indexer.

Daryl - not sure about the ink question?  Made it to full which on our inks?  Sorry if I am being dense - tired tonight - didn't get out of the office until after 10 last night and gave up today about 7:30pm - there will be plenty more work to do tomorrow and I was just kind of done for the day :)

I will never get over that. That is a sh!t ton of pigment. I have 8 ounces of all my pigments right now. I am buying quarts this week. Next gallons. I guess its only a matter of time.  ;D ;D

Hi Darryl,

Yes - we are pthalate free - have been since 2008 or 9.  Still print plastisol along with water base though - depends on the customer and the job at hand.

Sorry I misunderstood :)
