So we ordered a new dryer belt, and i didn't realize the string i used shrunk in the dryer. So that kind of rules. So i'm about 12-15" off.
I have a patch kit for my older belt, would that work to splice a long enough piece of that together? or will that eventually fail as the thread gets worn out?
Feeling pretty great about it, in case you were wondering!
-
if its short, cant you order a 12-15" long piece and attach it to the belt?
when we bought an extension to our raypaul (years ago) we bought a piece and just zipped it to the existing belt instead of ordering a new belt.

If the belt was ordered from us we can take it back and send you a new one. We can always have it cut down for a smaller dryer.

this is a great idea. i'm going to do this now.
Rich, thank you so much for the offer, but unfortunately we did not order it from M&R. but i appreciate the offer!
-
I agree that getting an extension may be best, unless the supplier will take it back and make you a new one, as Rich offered.

the best part about an extension is you will be reminded of your bonehead move every time you look at the belt.
-
Definitely easier to add to the belt, than shorten the dryer!
On my dryer, I did just that though, as the previous owner had extended the in-feed about three feet to allow two presses to feed a 30" wide belt.
I couldn't fit the longer dryer as easily in a smaller location, so I removed the I-beam extensions, and the additional belt piece similar to the one that you will get.
So, bonehead mistake? Maybe, but easily fixed? You betcha! ;D

extension ordered, embarrassment still high!

On that note, I wish to congratulate our members for showing a high degree of maturity and restraint with no sophomoric references to Eric's embarrassment of needing an extension.
whoops :o

It was tempting, but it says to "Play nice" above. If it makes you feel better Eric, I changed a starter on a '71 Barracuda, when it only needed a jump...
Steve
anybody else want to share a stupid story?

No :)

Indexed a mannequin once.
-
on purpose? I have no idea why a mannequin would be in the middle of a press.

Indexed a mannequin once.
Like maybe on a Precision Oval? That would be pretty funny to see...

I probably shouldn't ask.......index finger?

We moved our developing sink a couple weeks back. Had it sitting out on the shop floor not hooked up to
a drain or anything. Out of habit one of the employees grabs the hose from the nearby washout and starts developing
a screen. Water pouring all over the floor. Me and the other kids just about died laughing.

It was done in Preston's honor on one of those blue Death Machines. Some may remember.

Biggest bonehead mistake I ever made involved not asking enough direct questions from a salesperson when buying my first dryer. 'Sure it will fit through a 36" wide door, you just have to take the legs off!" was the salesguys response to my question.
What I did not ask was "How do the legs come off?", I assumed they were bolted on. Nope took a cutting torch to remove!
Therefore, I called my guys on the way home from picking it up and told them to tear down an exterior wall to get the dryer into our production space. The story keeps coming up when we have visitors and the story and the hole seems to get bigger every time it's told.
Oh yeah it would not fit in the S10 pickup truck we took and I had to rent a U-Haul to get it back.
Lesson learned, I now ask lots of questions. Lots!
OK who can top that one!

Got a million of em Greg. At Nike Sport Graphics we put in a ton of new equipment including two collossal belt printers. On one of the brand new freshly tacked belts an untrained operator accidentally printed the belt with a 52x65 screen The screen carraige began to rise with the belt stuck to the screen and it indexed, turning the carraige into a pretzel. At Fortune one of the dreaded Elexons had a pesky habit of stopping/starting for no apparent reasons. Quartz flash caught shirts on fire, then indexed, catching the screens on fire, etc etc. Fire extinguishers were placed all around the machine. In Miami a water hose broke one night causing a couple hundred dozen shirts to get stained. Had to Chinese fire drill back and forth from the laundrymat. When beta testing the first wing allover press a ninety pound kid got indexed because he was too light for the safety mat.
Note: No individuals were seriously hurt in any of these incidents. Well maybe that belt printer kid got a pummeling.

Ah, but Tony you miss the point.
I screwed up all by myself, you had buildings full of people helping you! ;D

I washed my face with stencil remover......
as a bald guy, your head gets a bit oily throughout the day so once in a while I would hit up the 20:1 mix of simple green to water and splash of the ol noggin....this day, I failed to look at what I was grabbing for some reason...
I had to over night films from a fellow board member when my printer went down...there was a HUGE typo.... now I have 2 back ups and a main printer....and a chip resetter and TONS of spare parts.

OK well I did step into a 5 gal bucket of brown WB puff (WB puffs came before plastisols) coming the platform on the oval. Did it all by myself!
-
Years ago had some plastisol on my jeans near the crotch area (don't ask how it got there). Was in a rush to get home after a long day & zapped it with the spotting gun without removing my pants. About 10 minutes into my drive home my nether regions felt like the surface of the sun...
-
Who hasn't shot their nuts with a spot gun?
I try and block out the bad screwups. A good one was with our old heat press. I left a 50/50 orange shirt in there for about 3 minutes at 370. The shirt was fine, but the dye sublimated into the pad below and every time we would press shirts, they came out orange for a while. We had to replace the pad finally. Now we have an auto release, so no more problems with that.
-
Biggest bone head move I ever made was letting Are Dubya Bee in my building.
;D

Just don't say those letters 3 times in a row!

I'm glad I asked... pretty funny stuff, and I feel a whole lot better about myself.

..Love this thread!
...early in my career ('93-94ish), I was in charge of all pre-press for a 2-auto contract shop. We were running a long job with these extremely oversize sleep tees, with a HUUUGE underbase. Goin thru abut a 5gal an hour. I spent the day putting 5ers on the Turnabout to work the ink a bit before taking them to press. Well at the end of the day, I forgot I had one spinning on there, and it spun all night. Eventually the ink heated, gelled, and forced the blade into the inside surface of the bucket...and chewed all the way thru it. Five gallons of white ink and bits of chewed plastic completey submerging the ink mixer the next morning. THAT was a fun cleanup.
...About three weeks after starting Mr Tees full-time and moving into my new building (brand new, first tenant), I pulled into my drive way and saw water seeping out from UNDER THE BAY DOOR. I had just installed and setup the washout area the night before, and forgot to shut off the water supply. The flood-rinse hose had fallen to the floor and landed on the handle. Sprayed into the air for what I assumed was all night. Flooded the whole building, which thankfully was still mostly empty. Bubbled up my freshly painted floor. Actually, my brand new, shiny Diamondback was in the building, but was still crated and raised above the flood line. Guess I needed a shop-vac around here anyway.
...The landlord never found out, which was a big surprise considering that the water bill was included in the rent.

Today!
Changing out to sleeve pallets on the Sportsman, indexing with the heads off while I clamped the pallets in place. Caught the control cable on the Tacana flash in head #2. Didn't notice till it spun around through the carousel and under the indexing bits once or twice and ripped the cable off the flash.
Luckily it wasn't the power cable...

I don't have the luxury of our quartz flash plugging in, (2010 model) but why was that cable anywhere near platens indexing? I like the presses where the flashes plug in on the top of the print head and the electrical is out of the way as well...
