an explanation of what it is would be nice, it looks like wood veneer.

oh right.  Yep it's veneer, type often used on hollowcore doors.  My shop neighbor is a cabinet maker and was able to cut them down perfectly from 4x8 sheets so we could successfully register a 5 color run.  Then we made a "stain" from some based and watered down flatstock ink (ours are wb) and went to town. 

Poster is a commemorative for our retail store which we closed recently as part of an acquisition.  The store was an all-ages music venue by night and we threw one last blowout show last Sat.
