Title: Best film to print out seps on?
Post by: Mark @ Hurricane Printing on April 07, 2013, 08:31:18 AM
I use an Epson 3000....and when I bought it, the guy I bought it from gave me his pack of film to go with it. There was no name brand on the wrapper of the film. They were 18" x 13", non-water proof film. The seps come out really crisp. I lent a few to a fellow printer who has been in the biz for 15 yrs and he was raving about how this film, as compared to the film he uses which is the water proof kind, gave a much better quality print and keeps asking me where I go it or what brand is it?

As I mentioned I, sadly, do not know the name brand of the film I had, so does anyone have any suggestions or preference? I need to order some today.

There are certainly plenty of good films out there, so you will have little trouble finding one that you like, but, may I ask the obvious, have you tried to check with the person from whom you bought the printer?

no way of contacting them...no longer in the biz and have no idea where he is located.

Mark,

It sounds like the Kimoto Silkjet SC 4 non waterproof film. If you want me to send you some samples to compare just let me know.

I just had my 3000 serviced and it's back outputting near flawless films. I padprint a lot of tiny logos and ultra fine text and the 3000 is a beast for knocking out film on all the scraps of film I collect. 4" x 6" chunks at a time saves a bunch of money over the season in film costs.

I hated bubble jets until I got the 3000. I'll have to check out non-waterproof film and see if I get even better results.

As much as we all brag about our epson (3000) I have two, you would think epson would make a printer just for us screenprinters or do they and I ain't been update.

Yeah it'd be nice to have one that would do 300LPI 80% tones so I didn't have to double expose my pad printing plates too  ;D

I saw the end of Letraset/Ruby, went through a ton of pasting up 8.5 x 14's Vellum with Laser toner, using a Sharpy and fine tip Staedtlers to darken solid areas until Toneraid came along. The 3000 giving dead-black images without a RIP was a godsend! Of course we got spoiled with the Imagesetter at the shop doing all graphic printing, but even that was a royal pain compared to a good Epson.

I do my big, touchy film on an Epson 7880, but if I have a little job to do the 3000 gets the call as it doesn't take 2 minutes to warm up while it purges 1/2 it's ink into the maintenance tank.
