Title: New Epson?
Post by: dirkdiggler on May 14, 2013, 06:45:59 PM
So after 2 years my 4900 has just about bit the dust.  Don't know what to do?  I have read TERRIBLE reviews of the 4900 so I don't think I want to buy it again, but whats available?  I would just buy a 1430 from my local staples, but my Wasatch doesn't support it.  Wonder if its worth it to buy Accurip and a 1430 and just throw it away when it gives problems.  Its only 300 bucks versus the 2 grand for another 4900.  And how does the blackmaxx work with the 1430, I am sure you void the warranty as soon as you load it up.  Any help appreciated.

with a little bit of luck used 4800 can be had for $350. I've just talked to someone who bought a used 4900 for $750. 1400 series is a really nice printer, but I would not use it for film output other than in emergency.

I took Pierre's advice and found a 4880 on CL with less than 800 prints and a stand from a photographer for $700, the machine is so much nicer than the 1430 we were using prior.

We use a 4880 and Wasatch Rip. Works great.

Piere was talking to me....lol Just picked up a 4900 that was a year old. 750 smackers. I would get another in a second. Better than 1400, 3000, and my 4000 all put together. Cleaner prints out of the box right off the bat. Linearized it and it is printing much nicer than the 4k did even when it was working great.

here's the funny part:
I got the same advice on the forum and went with a 4800 because of it!

This is a great example of the knowledge sharing at work!

Whoa, we can't be sharing knowledge like this, other people might find out.
