There is probably a very good chance the numbers are not real......I got a recorded call this morning from my neighbour's number....But I know for sure he is not in the septic tank pumping business......Telemarketers "spoof" numbers these days.....

With the advent of VOIP, and the explosion of internet spoofing services, it's a rather trivial affair, unfortunately.

I'm especially sick of the folks who tell me that I'm a selected business for Google listings, and with their help, I can get top rankings. It makes me feel so special, LOL!
To make it worse, often within 30 seconds , my wife's business line rings with the same damn sales pitch.

Chances are they are random calling numbers to prove a number is live. Once they prove a live number it can be sold to the telemarketers. Usually it is done with robocalling. You get a call but no one is on the other end, you hang up. But what happened is because you answered the phone your line is proven to be live and now a target for telemarketers.

We have been getting a LOT of calls from digitizers with "wonderful" English.  They have great deal for us to send designs, they await to grow business together. ::)
I bet we get a average of 10 of these calls a week.

10 easily.

We also get the annoying "a local diner/resteraunt has chosen your business to advertise on their crummy paper  menu for xxx amount"

Oh and the president calls me at least twice a week.

I especially like the 5 second delay before they reply to your answer...
Just enough time to click- "let them go" and go back to work! ;)

Oh, well if the president calls you, you must be important! I will have to give my acquaintance "the president of a prosperous village in Africa" your contact info. Possibly you and our president can help him, seems he is in a bit of a pickle trying to get his family's fortune released from a bank and he always needs my help. Somehow he must know I graduated high school with a diploma, knowledge in screen printing and foreign monetary relations.

I'll get you two in touch!

I was seeking a decent VOIP forum... still looking... and I saw a few post of people looking to develop these robocalling scripts that would put you on hold THEN forward the call to a real person.  I had a strong urge to sign up for the forum just to ask the guy "do you REALLY think that is effective?"

If they are calling her cell phone and they are repeat numbers, you should be able to contact the cellphone company and have them block the numbers. Also make sure her number is put on the national do not call list that is through the government. That may or may not help but for the 47 seconds it takes, probably can't hurt.

Yeah we called the phone company and they said they can only block telemarking calls, but these calls are coming from other places and will cost us a monthly fee to block...now ain't that a bitch.
