Title: Older 6 color Javelin auto press -- air requirements
Post by: jvanick on June 13, 2013, 01:51:37 PM
I can't find the specs on line, but I'm sure somebody here knows.

I am becoming the new owner of an older 6 color Javelin press... (needs work, but I'm very mechanically inclined, so it's a great way to get to the next level of our business)

our 'bread and butter' jobs are 1-3 color jobs, so I highly doubt we'll be running more than 5 heads at any time.

Does anybody know what CFM and PSI I'd be looking at?

Also, if anybody can share a service manual, that would be awesome...

Thank you!
-J

Virtually the same machine through out the years.

I also believe you need to be in Explorer only to view their maintenance/manuals.

15-20 CFM @100 PSI will do the job.

It should be 20cfm @ 120psi

Yep Brian is correct 20 min even that may struggle if you have all heads printing. Also have a large tank if you want to keep it from kicking on all the time.

Our old AC for our old Javelin was 27cfm 80gal.

With a 27 cfm compressor and 120 gallon tank the compressor ran almost continusioly with 5 or more heads running. I did bypass the base resivor and add a 30 gallon tank directly to the inlet to give the press a little more a$$.

I have a newer Jav and an old Olypian (Jav's big brother basically the same press) manuals in PDF format. If you pm me your email address I would be glad to send it. As for support talk to Phil at Workhorse, knows the press inside out.

Also Monte Bartel.  Works for M&R now but is a great tech on Javs.

what kind of print speeds were you guys running to have a 27cfm compressor running almost constantly?

just curious if I print slower (more than 4 or 5 shirts a minute will task my current conveyor dryer anyways), if I can get by with a smaller maybe 5hp/80gal/16cfm unit.

and we'll have just one guy loading and unloading... not sure if going faster than 10-12 sec a shirt would really work at this point in our shop either.

IMO you will be fine at 15cfm, like you said the press will only be operating at half speed.

After thinking about it, it was actually the Olypian that kept the compressor running full bore not the Jav. The compressor could keep up with the Jav, sorry for the confusion.

One drawback to the Jav if the compressor gets low the index cylinder will not have enough a$$ to overcome the shock and the pallets will index the other way voiently then back and forth. Please make sure the low pressure warning is working, if it is missing add one to prevent this from happening.

Our javelin never ranmconstantmwith the 80gal but printing several heads it would kick on often very often compared to the machine we have now AC servo.
