We are toying with the idea of getting a higher wattage exposure unit due to the increasing amount of discharge we seem to be printing these days. I am curious to know what you think our Nuarc 40-1KS may be worth in order for us to have an idea of what kind of unit we can afford. It can accomodate 25x36 frames. We are shooting out a 180 2/1 coated non-diazo Aquasol HV at 20 ltu (takes 1:25) with our unit but once we jump to WR-14 or comparable emulsions for long runs it is just taking longer than we would like.
Any thoughts would be appreciated as we are trying to figure out a budget for our purchase.

I got mine for $450 delivered to my place.
Guy drove about 50-60 miles to bring it to me. I use it for 2 years now with no issues.

But then again, yours is MH, mine is Mercury bulb. Yours should run a bit higher.
BTW, with mercury bulb i'm around 1:20 minute with ImageMate PC701

Thanks Dennis! I was thinking somewhere between 500-1000 but that is a big range and just a blind guess on my part. We bought it from the original owner 7.5 years ago (he had just bought a sportsman with the triloc which would not work with this exposure unit so he had to buy a new one) and the only thing we have done is changed the bulb a few times and we just changed the hydraulic lifts a couple months ago because we were tired of holding the glass up while putting in a screen. You should get plenty of value out of yours at $450.

ha, i've got that exact unit and I have listed it a few times with no luck. a lot of tire kickers. I figure it might not be bad to hold onto in case mine goes out.
Dan wants it, but moving down there can be a nightmare.

Unless you have another exposure unit, I would hang on to that one. $500 isn't worth selling it if you won't have a backup, in my opinion. That's on the high end of what I would pay for it if I were in to that sort of thing.

I have that unit with mh bulb, works fine. Watch out for the "closure" claws on the top glass you will hit your screen on them and your big fat belly if you got one. Not tri lock friendly if that matters and you will be cleaning the top and bottom of the glass daily. I use qtx, coat 2x2 and burn screens between 28 to 32 lu depending on the mesh.

It works great we just need to speed up exposure for highly water resistant emulsions. We were having to jump from 20 ltu for our photopolymer to the high 100s and into the 200s for various diazo emulsions.
We use the triloc but have it modified to work without carrier sheets so we do not need the jig in the exposure unit. We are looking at a used Douthitt right now or a new Richmond. We are also about to test CCI's HXT so depending on how that goes we may stick with the Nuarc.

I vote for this one too... only because I'm not still in need of an exposure unit ;)
PLUS, if something ever happens to mine, I know I'm only 2 hours away from one that I can borrow. :p

This is definitely something that is under consideration. Considering a new Richmond (crating included) that can accomodate one 23x31 is $4800, we could hold on to our Nuarc as a backup or if we need to burn some 25x36 screens. The peace of mind well be worth $500. I appreciate all of the feedback!

just to put things into perspective, we paid $825 for an older Nuarc 3140. I have seen them for about $1k here and there since then, so $800 for it is probably high. At $400 it's probably a pretty good deal and $500 is probably most I'd pay for something like it (which is obviously very subjective).

Pierre, the 3140's only accommodate a 1k-1,200 bulb, correct? Or are you not referring to m&r's msp 3140's?
