I never would have guessed that P's forum would just die...it is like dead over there, just a creepy bug running the show i guess....sad! :o
-
It is written. "You reap what you sew". I guess it's true. He was his own worst enemy. He didn't listen to the people. The people make a forum.

Sad for sure. I seen it coming a mile away though. When you ignore your members (the vast majority), its only a matter of time before they find a new place or create one themselves. The same thing that made his forum the place to goto, is now the reason people avoid it. Ironic I guess.....
-
I'm not sure it's dead just smells funny. By all accounts Preston is a well educated man who stands by his moral convictions. Kudos to that. But in his effort to be fair and balanced and non biased to all he sort of fell into the wrong crowd. Here you have to pay your dues to be a member. Not in dollars of course but behaviour.
-
Well as you can see Tony the second someone innocently asked about my press over there and the answers were given Voldermort went ballistic and immediately got that thread deleted. Sorry but P's spiel about being open and fair is a crock, at least when it comes to Voldermorts Press. Now sad to say it seems his majesty a$$wipe has digitsmith wrapped around his fingers I think we all know who Jerri really is.
-
You are probably right on all that Ink. Rumor has it he went over to the Dark Side because he needed money.
-
Sara has a very specific writing style and certain tells that scream at me when i read Jerri's longer winded posts.
-
There was a day last week where by 4pm there was only 3 posts for the entire day, and 2 of those posts were about a flash mob. It's sad that it's become what it has, but like Brandt said, I think most of us saw it coming. I know the post counts were way down and a contest was started, but you just can't manufacturer discussions like they are trying to do right now, it just doesn't look right and the posts really don't have content worth reading right now. Oh well, I thought it had some serious potential, but there are too many good, active members that have decided to post here instead so it likely will never be the best screen printing forum.
I love me some Johnny and respect his loyalty to P, but I just don't think he can make spof what it was just a few months ago no matter how hard he tries. The respect I used to have for P was way up there, almost mentor-like in some aspects and his conviction is so very strong, I think it blinds his periphery. He reminds me of a sinking boat captain who has an opportunity to hop on the life boat but he refuses and thinks he has to go down with the ship. I guess I'm saying that it never had to be that way, everyone could have been listened to and I think Robert's membership there could have been handled without running off 90% of the active posters. I think that he drew a line in the sand and stood behind it thinking his opposition was wrong, but there wasn't really a wrong or a right, it was a majority/minority issue.

Ya its not exaclty dead, but frankly the idea of forums is particpation of members. Posting questions/information/facts/fun stuff etc. There are just a few topics/posts a day there now. Its pretty rough.
When I compare its actual posting to whats going on here, this site has far more activity in that respect. I think this speaks volumes about what the masses think about it. Im sure he will tell us how "wrong" we all are. But the proof is in the puddin' son. LOL

As for the other part of your post, actual participation, it's interesting that this claim is made over at TSPMB:
...Go to the “friendly forums” to shoot the breeze, visit SPOF to learn.
I might be crazy and biased, but damn, isn't it great when learning is fun as well? Weren't those the teachers and classes that made sense, and stuck with you? When nuggets of knowledge and wisdom are blowing in that same breeze, in my mind, it's the perfect storm.
-
Yeah I'm not sure theres that much "learning" going on there. The original purpose of these forums and others like it is contain a strong amount of educational and informative content. And yes some fun stuff. Not really seeing it anywhere but here really at least for now. It seems that many of these forums start out strong but many reasons they appear to have a relatively short life span of a few years. We shall see.
-
Newbies like me learn a lot on the forums. I have found some valuable info on SPOF when I started last year. Preston was more than helpful when I looked for the machine. I am thankful for that. I was regular there for a few months before all the sh!t hit the fans.
Now, I go to DS or T-Shirt forum more than I go to SPOF.
I'm here every 20-30 minutes during the day to see what is going on. Still learning a lot from you guys :)
Again, thanks to Pierre, Andy and "Dane" for a nice place to "hang out"!

There is still a great amount of knowlege on SPOF....but for that matter there is on TSPMB as well. The interesting part is that now that TSPMB is picking up a little again and this site continues to grow. While SPOF and Digitsmith both shrink in terms of active useful posting. Hmm whats the common theme? Oh and lets not forget the most popular screen print forum...does it have anything in common with this site and TSPMB? HMMMM

Well guys here is my take on things I saw P sinking long time ago and told him so many time in PM...now asdf can be blame for two forums going south only becuase some people could not over look the guy and I understand somewhat why someone couldn,t. This forum here is really good reminds me of the old TSPMB from yester years, but even back then it was only a hand full of members that reall made the forum jump with a lot of guest stars popping in and I was one of the guest stars. This forum is the same way only a hand full of stars with guest stars popping by nothing wrong with that. I think P really missed the boat on not having the stars and thinking the supporting cast would keep the boat above water. So I post this what if asdf got his fat finger in this forum somehow would he be band quick fast and in a hurry, would everyone leave for higher grounds. Frog if this post needs to be cut please do so......I just hate to see good forums fall, I was a member of one many years ago even before TSPMB and the guy who run the show had a heart attack and die and the forum fell a few months later, us supporting cast just could not fill his shoes
-
If you know who shows up it will be a lot of this:

...and then some of this:

If you really want to get down to brass tacks, everything any printer ever wanted to know is at TSPMB right now.
I frequent this place because I like the "community". Nobody sh!ts on each other here.
There is only so much time in a day to post and visit printing forums and like any place of business, the consumer spends money where they feel they get the best experience and the most bang for the buck.
I have chosen this forum as the place to spend my "Forum Dollars".
-
I have chosen this forum as the place to spend my "Forum Dollars".
So wait, where do we get these dollars? Did I miss something?

You missed the first few weeks when that happened every few hours!
We have little doubt that the troublemakers and those who can not sell their products without saturating the market with a circus will make more attempts to join in here. That is how that small crowd operates. Deceive, Disrupt, Dominate (in no specific order). We have banned and deleted numerous accounts of theirs in the past.
The policy statement here is pretty clear. (http://www.theshirtboard.com/index.php?topic=247.0)

Way to go. I am sick of that crap. I am here to learn, socialize and meet new people.
-
My take on the situation is that P claimed and hell, might even tried, to play it totally fair. The problem was his perception just seemed to be off. He let one guy post flame bait all day long, then came down hard on the people who responded to it and not so much on the person actually initiating things.
I personally had my fill when that Iowa dork started running around stirring up crap, adding nothing meaningful, and going so far as screaming "YOU'RE A JOKE" every time someone posted (I forget who it was). That was bad enough, but when P intervened and said Iowa wasn't doing anything wrong, I felt it was time to find greener pastures.
All that said, I always say its best to worry about what you are doing and not so much about what others are doing. While it is sad what is going on at SPOF, we should focus more on what is going on here and let P worry about what is going on over there.

I met P in person. Very likeable guy. I think his intentions were/are honest but I must concur that his perception did not always fit with what was best for the long term health of his forums. In the end his alliance was too much for most

Donnie I was out in Oaklahoma just about all week last week and brotha you guys can keep your heat, I'll take Alabama heat any day.

Good to see a fellow Zappa fan........one of the most underrated guitar players ever to live. I have a Cal State College 1972 concert poster tee t-shirt. Anyone care to guess the backup band and ticket price?

I agree with this. I dont dislike him, but somewhere along the way of "trying to be fair" he didn't realize he completely went to far for that one party. I don't personally care either, let's be honest a monkey with $10 bucks a month can create a forum. I guess he some how forgot what he offered to us all was very easily replaced if he coudln't create a situation the majority of people enjoyed.
The only sad party to me is the same thing that built his forum to start with (hate for how things where elsewhere), is the same thing that is bringing it down to where it is now.

I'll leave the complete guess to someone else, but will tell you that this act was on one of Frank's Labels, and made a huge turn from their original image and look.
As for price, I'd have to guess $4 tops. That's all we would pay at the most three or four times a week at the Fillmore (Carousel), Winterland, or Family Dog at the beach after the Avalon closed.

Alice Cooper. That's hilarious.
I'm not gonna say much negative about P and SPOF, but I believe you guys have a much better shot of long term success as it "appears" to be 3 equal (well, except for 1) partners in the venture. P was trying to be a one man show and that's a rough road.
-
In my opinion P is just one wisker away from freaking brilliant. Unfortunately with that comes a certain amount of eccentricity bolstered by idealistic dogma.
I kinda admire the guy though his energy and all.

Man, I thought SPOF turned into Barnes Circus and Printex forum? no? too funny...hahahah...
Preston was warned by many people about Mr. Barnes and how he worked...well he is now seeing it..I Know a few people who had adverstised on there they no longer support the mission of the forum...
Preston is a good guy, but he sold out to Barnes and Printex...plain and simple..

I guess the wisdom behind Preston's "open" philosophy can be debated every which way, but I think he walked into the Printex affiliation with eyes wide open, knowing that Barnes was the face (and maybe the only installer) here in the states. Right out of the gate these forums have been witness to Inkman's "buyer's remorse" at having been soaked for charges that were promised as free to sweeten the deal, and apparently specs that didn't pan out as advertised. The machine may be good, but nothing sours someone on a new purchase quicker than finding out the deal wasn't what they were led to believe, especially an expensive purchase. After that, everything becomes suspect, from the machine, to the salesman, to the company and any future support.

I agree, and one should suspect the whole thing when its all a mess like it is.
Inkman isn't even publically telling it all about his press. The interesting part is the price of his press, time you add the shipping, the hassle of what he's been through, and so on. Its not cheaper than M&R or many other brands.
-
?? Was it Preston, or was it Lance... Are DoubleyewBee offered one of them a million dollars for their forum during the rape of TSPMB. Anyone remember that?
-
It was Lance, in a silly Youtube charade made while driving.

I am not allowed to post anything on digitsmith anymore concerning my machine. It gets immediately deleted, and the kicker is nothing I say is false it is all truthful information. So I guess DG now does not care about unsuspecting buyers anymore.
And here is the wild thing, Ted Uhall bought his press in January and still has not received and now all of a sudden he is getting a different press ion September. Should not this stuff be public knowledge? Shouldn't potential buyers that have time lines be aware that if you buy a Printex they may miss your time line by many months? And if they do miss it they will offer you a prototype press with no proven production. And almost guaranteed to not even have a manual.
We all seen what happened recently on SPOF, a whole post was deleted because it showed negativity to Printex even tho there was nothing in the whole post but truth. How the F is that considered open? Sad thing is Killer even said he will not delete it but only lock it to be fair to everyone, well Preston logged on and Poof thread was gone. Gonna be a tough job for Killer over there but it will get easier as it gets quieter and quieter.
P made his bed now he gets to lay in it, the site is dieing miserably and this site is growing. God Bless the Three Amigos!

Thats why its clear to see its either owned by, or being allowed to be highly influenced by the resident pest. Did you see that most of the day yesterday he couldn't get anyone to give him any attention, so he started posting on SPOF. It was comical. It's a look into the future for him.

Ted seems like a good guy, however we all knew his machine would be late before he even had it cross his mind im sure. Just like we knew your machine was so "public" that they would bust their ass to get it there "close" to the time line as they could. I guess in doing that they forgot to build it correctly. That's a peak into the future there too and how they will be able to or should I say not be able to handle pressure.
My press came as promised, and everything about it works. Novel concept.

Writing is on the wall, when you have to have a posting contest to get people to post, it makes one laugh. I wish no ill will but it was very predictable how this has all panned out. Im sure when its all said and done the claim will be made it was his plan to run off 90% of his active posters.

Even though there's two sides to every story, I have to say my sympathies lie with Inkman inasmuch as he isn't the owner, but I get the impression that the press was purchased based on his analysis and expertise as a pressman. It's never pleasant facing your boss after he's put up the money for something based on your good-faith recommendation, only to find out that the other party doesn't hold up his end of the bargain or baffled you with bullsh_t.
-
Iconsider my self reasonable to a degree. Lately there has been some users saying I should shut up and let them in our building. The thing is most people do not even know nearly as much as they think they do. There has been a lot of BS back and forth privately between me and my business and Robert. He went on a campaign to get my fired and even threatened my boss with legal actions. Some of the crap he told my boss was amazing and all it actually did was piss him off even more because we are close and he respects me and does not have any reason to respect Robert. To the users that tell me I should shut up and let them in here is the deal we gave Robert several options well before we decided to get rid of the press to man up and provide some of the things we wanted he always replied with GFY's. Now according to Preston Poland is staying quiet because there lawyers have told them to. What P does not know is we already have been in contact with our lawyer and was told our case is extremely strong especially since I made public statements asking that Robert be removed from our support but not Poland. Trust me we absolutely in no way do not want to go down any legal road it is stressful and cost money our desire is to make it all go away quietly and I offered Poland that.
Ted is a great guy and I wish him the absolute best, he is a new printer especially to autos I really hope he does not get a PITA machine that is simply to much for him to handle. More importantly it is my opinion that Poland put his press production to the side to build higher paying obs such as Rock Chic's. That has to be the most horrible customer care I ever heard of. And now the guy has to wait till freaking September. Nothing personal Ted but damn I hope you know what you got your self into.
Here is a funny tid bit. Way Way back just before I was about to finally post my Printex review as promised, Robert banged my phone to death trying to get a hold of me before I did it. Obviously he wanted to gag me in some way imagine that.
-

You are correct I had to take full responsibility for this. I even went so far as to shield my boss from Roberts known behavior other wise the deal never ever would have happened. But my boss is sympathetic and is backing me in the fullest.
Also like I said before no one here really knows the full story, i prefer to keep private communications private but a lot has happened behind the scenes as well.
-
Ted will be ok, he seems to have a lot of money. So things for him will shake out one way or another.
I don't worry about guys like Ted. I worry about smaller shops and people that can't afford to make that mistake. Those are the ones that will be the most hurt. But again this is all less about Printex than it has been about the actions of the pest.
-
@ Inkman, If I was selling a product and someone posted a bunch of negativity about it true or unture I would delete it to. I bet if you post negativity stuff on M&R forum about there equipment they would delete it to, thats just the biz, and I,m beting you would do the same if someone posted about your company and again true or untrue. I,m not saying you did anything wrong, its your right to express your feelings, but most people or companies perfer it to be to them over the phone. Right now i got beef with someone but I,m not going to post it for all to see because what I feel may not be the feeling of someone else thats all I,m saying. Lets say this you guys print a job and for what ever reason the customer does not like it and they blast you on the net for all to see, and if you had the power to delete it you would or explain what happen, but the trash post is still there?
Darryl
Ps I don't own a printex, but sorry it didn't work out for you cuz I knew you where pretty excited about getting it
-
You know what I don't understand...that is how Barnes was excited to get a press to INKMAN to get people to shut up and now that INKMAN has had a bad experience Barnes wants nothing to do with him and will not refund his money...but Barnes has said publicly that he would take it back...well as he says put up or shut up
Sam
-
Darryl it is called fighting fire with fire. Robert thrives on discrediting people on the forums and I chose to do the same. And asi said before he was refusing many requests privately well before it blew up online.
Also Darryl if I did print a job wrong I would be a man and take it on the chin and let the chips fall where they may. I believe through proper follow up and remedies me and the said unhappy customer would come to an arrangement and said negative post would disappear, not because I put a gag on it but because we earned its removal with merit. That does not happen in Robert's world.
-
Good answer Inkman and I can understand your point, but hey we all know Rob is a strange bird...flying upside down is impossble but he does LOL
Darryl
-
flying upside down is impossble but he does
I love that one!
-
Welllll.........either way he would need to lose a lot of ballast.
-
Lots of good comments but I would like to clarify something. If there is something posted on the M&R forum that is negative and truthful it will not be taken down. It will be addressed publicly as well as privately to make sure the issue is handled. There are no secrets in this industry. Screw someone and eventually it will come out. In my visit to Inkman's shop I would have to say they were misled and used. What Mike has posted is accurate and he has held back posting a lot of even more damaging issues. The fact that Preston posted Printex's lawyers told them not to respond is an outright lie. No and I repeat no lawyer would tell them not to respond to his request. That alone is enough to go into a US court of law and get a judgement against them. As a manufacturer myself this has to be the worst I have ever seen anything handled between a manufacturer and customer. Barnes is wrong but so is Printex in many, many ways. It is clear this arrangement will not stand the test of time and my guess is it won't make it to the end of the year.

Rich what what happened over at DS? Seems like there was some diareha of deleting.

I have no legal training... but my suggestion to Inkman would be to turn up the heat via a "breach of contract" suit.
There are several classes of "breach".... I believe the fact that the press will not print the specified / advertized length would qualify as "material breach".
The press has been delivered, that part of the contact is finalized.
But if it doesn't meet the specifications... ???
Is that a "material" breach of the contract ???
-
Can somebody please save all of those fun posts over there before they get deleted. I always miss out on the good stuff.
This is when it comes in handy to know some techs, get their opinion of the equipment out there and get a feel for how well it will do for you.

I posted a legal response to Barnes bait and switch post and they quickly pulled them down. Its pretty clear who is moderating there now and her name is not Jeri!!

We have been advised on pursuing a breach of contract suit. And also been advised our case is extremely strong. But here is the "But", Printex is in Poland, Robert is insulated as well. A case of this type would be very lengthy and nearly impossible dealing with an over seas manufacturer. I will say tho that pursuing a legal case is not off the table tho. If we won we would also add to our suit payment of legal fees and any other damages, especially the lovely threats from Robert. Poland is choosing to ignore my emails and for every email ignored it is more evidence of ignoring your customer. The next step will be certified letters where no one can claim ignorance of correspondence.
And North the strongest part of the Breech of Contract suit is actually the fraudulent use of the UL sticker on both the machines and our contract!

Our lawyers have them for sure!

I thought I posted something under this thread, was it deleted?
I asked whatever happened with SPOF stock and if Printex is paying the shareholders for the advertisement there.

Any SPOF stockholders care to share the stock details? Would be interesting or really boring but curious non the less.

No deletion from me., and now I see not from Pierre (or anyone else) either
I've let this go way further than my new-found up-tight biased forum owner persona probably should, but I feel that it's somewhat cathartic and you guys need to vent!
Besides, aside from a few PM's and emails, I would have no idea how the other half lives otherwise.

@ Rich I hear what your saying, but let me redirect my first posting a little I don't think there is a need to bash someone on the forums personal or comany wise. Yes I,m sure you would take care of the problem and that would be the right thing to do, but still an all out bash on the net 998 percent of the times causes more trouble. What I,m saying people are to willing to bash on the internet now than a phone call and discuss there problems and yep I know if they avoid you getting there attenion on the net helps. You and Rob have a history that dates way back before my time and if I'd bought equipment from either of you I sure would not ask the other his opinion on sh!2t about the other. Why, because of the history not saying neither one of you wouldn't tell the truth, I just would not put myself in the middle of it. Now Rich you know you wouldn't let someone down grading your equipment stay up on your forum posting crap unless you and that person have worked things out and alls in the open. Rich you been in biz a long time and I know dam well your not a fool you don't stay in biz as long as you have without having a few hrash words here and there to keep your good name GOOD.

I think what you are seeing Andy is adults actually discussing something controversial without it becoming uncivilized. Something that would never be possible if Voldermort and posse were allowed in. It is nice and refreshing to talk civily about something even if all parties do not agree we all here respect each others opinions.

I clicked the wrong quote button, it was supposed to be Andy's...
I'm just reading as an interested observer, and I have to say that everyone is quite under control and the tone of the conversation is not at all harsh. So let her rip, Andy. I haven't followed the whole thing, too busy, but I can see that Inkman and his boss were misled and lied to. I had a similar situation back in the late 80's where the press and subsequent service didn't live up to the promise, so we just found a new tech guy, there are plenty, and never bought from that distributor again, and they were our main supplier of inks, mesh and emulsion. They tried very hard to get back in with us, but never did. We wouldn't even talk to them at a trade show. The stupid salesman actually started to walk over to me with his hand extended until he saw the look on my face. Eventually, these less than hones folks just disappear, unfortunately after doing some damage.

you are wrong. There is no role playing ever on our site. If someone post something negative we try to fix the problem period. Doesn't make a difference if it shows us in a bad light if its true. Customers have posted negative and it is never been pulled down. Sorry but we don't play that way.

I think I was one of the larger share holders. I bought up a lot to help Preston get started when he was having some financial issues. After he started changing into the person he is today I told him to keep them as I wanted no part of his site or supporting of Barnes. He gave them to Johnny is my understanding.
-
I bought 6. Seemed like a good deal at the time as he was planning on developing more content, and in particular, offering an online quote and invoice program that is still in the works, I guess. For the amount of time he put into it I thought it was right to help out if I could with some financial support. Came with two years of premium membership, and as much time as I pissed away there, pretty much balanced out anyhoo.
-
What role playing what are you talking about?, but like I said, you try and fix the problem as you just stated and I,m sure those post with your techs offering help and fixes are right there with the negative post. Every company thats been in biz long enough have had to defend their good name from something just like Inkman is doing now and Printex somewhat, until they both talk face to face nothing will get done. Rich you might not remember, but I bought a used m&r dryer and had a couple of problems posted them on the net and out of left field you call me and help me and my next post was WOW! m&r came thur like a champ . So we will agree to disagree respectfully on negative post, I would deal with it or delete it..if I did everything I could and could not come to an agreement on helping that person.
Darryl
-
I remember the dryer issue. I would not delete a bad post. I think that would be worse than leaving it. Fake ones yes but real post no.
-
Negative posts on forums, Facebook, etc, that are IGNORED (or deleted) by the company reflect poorly on the company. Negative post that are ADDRESSED by the company are a great way to handle customer relations and can win a customer(s) for life.
-
Freshbaked I agree with you on that and I know Rich will agree allso...but I would still delete post when I know that person can not be help no matter what we do or how hard we try.

I had 16 shares ($320)..... I don't have any regrets about buying them.
And... I have no regrets about giving them back to Preston.
It's his board to with, as he pleases.
Prestons vision for SPOF doesn't hold my interest any longer.
I thought the site had the potential to earn some income from advertisers.
I think that potential is greatly reduced now.
I also think he underestimated the way SPOF's membership would respond.
But.. at the end of the day his his baby, so have at it.
There was lots of talk about added content for premium members.... never saw any of that

Yea, I hear ya. There is a difference between cheap shots and a customer having a "real" problem. This came out a while back at the other place, as far as some people debating rather to implement a Review section on their website.
Maybe I'm waffling here but you can bet your sweet arse that I would delete a cheapshot or petty prick from casting me in a negative light. I mean, why would a person rant on a forum but never had made any attempt to contact the company directly? It's only getting worse with Facebook, etc.
I was referring to something more like this hypothetical post:
POSTER: "My model XYZ DTG keeps clogging"
COMPANY FORUM RESPONSE: Sorry to hear that, call us at 555-555-5555 and we may be able to recommend some maintenance steps and some different inks that will help with that problem"

Based on this jerk blog post at SPOF:
I removed the hyperlink and just pasted the text here. I figure why give hits over there to build their hit counts.
"Sam Wildt of Palomar Printing http://www.PalomarPrinting.com (http://www.PalomarPrinting.com) has once again shown he can be very opinionated -and- quite "Publicly Vocal" ... Potential Clients of Sam Wildt from Palomar Printing should think twice about doing business with a company owner that would say such negative things about professionals in the T-shirt Screen Printing Industry"
I will no longer be doing business with Sam at Palomar Printing. I'm just so grateful that the blogger opened my eyes as to what questionable business practices really are.
You all got my sarcasm, right? :) Sam is one of the most respected printers I know! Which makes the blog post even more laughable.
-

Such sweet irony.
-
Just read the BS at P's place posted by you know who about Sam @Polamar. P lets this happen!. I think he doesn't have a choice, follow the money, and you'll find the problem. Used to respect P a lot when he first started, but after his recent associations, I'm done. Sorry but he did it himself.
-
Thanks. Been interesting reading and civilly offered.
Was thinking. Years back I worked contract at a company for almost 10 years. They were going to release us all for being there too long and made me an offer. I passed on it and one of my clients there said - "hope you didn't sh!t in your lunchbox". Novel phrase and could probably be said to P.
As for me, who knows? Can't look back and guess at what might have happened had I accepted. Life is too complicated.

One hell of a door i opened up here, wish i never did....... ;)

SPOF is officially out of my Bookmarks menu.
It is sad what became of that place :(

Ironically I take some credit for talking a current "Open" big player out of starting his own back in '09, so as to not deplete or dilute the pool for P any more than already at the time.

Well, I don't have much need to go over there now that I've lost my mod status. All I did with it lately was to see if anything needed moved to a more appropriate section, I wasn't about to start moderating posts and stuff like that, but now I don't have to worry about it. It's still bookmarked, but I haven't been over there in a few days.

I don't get why people who criticize things over there or are even slammed personally over there, continue to post over there. Oh well, not my problem to ponder I suppose.
-
Let's make this place a place that every screen printer embroiderer wants to be part off.
I'm very thankful for everything that I have learned here and on SPOF, and I will do anything I can to help person in need.
I do not have much experience and knowledge, but I bet that I can make this place better and bring more to it.
If we have everybody thinking the same, this place should be rocking pretty soon (it rocks right now, but I want it to be even better).
-
Let our people speak then. What can make this place even better? I like that it almost runs itself but Frog does keep a good eye on things.
Just for enlightenment and discussion at this time, what have people seen elsewhere that make for a good forum? We know this one is currently running steady and picking up steam but what might we be missing? We have some ideas for portions of the forum to be developed later. Nothing earth shattering but stuff. What say you?
-
I've been tempted to post on SPOF a few times in the last few days, just in protest of the gross hypocrisy, but on principle I won't.
Even before it (spof) got to this level, I was nearly fed up with the big cheese's obvious distaste for some of my comments/opinions. Seems to me if you can't state your own opinion without the mod jumping on you, then screw it, why bother? I even made a monetary contribution to spof as well as many posts and much of my time only to see it go down the shitter to one loud mouth and potential grandiose machine commissions. What a waste of time and energy.
Glad to have this place to talk shop.

When it comes down to it, it's the posts and the people who post them that make a great forum. In the short time this one has been around, there's been a lot of quality posting here by some great folks. It's already a resource.
Doesn't need much more than that... even the old TSPMB had little in the way of bells and whistles, but was rich in info and activity.
-
A little about moderating.
You may remember a brief period just before the end, when TSPMB ran even a little smoother.
It was when Muldoon actually moderated a bit, or at least listened to members when spammers posted and discussion sections were threatened with sales clogs. The offending posts were cut. Moderate moderation. (sic notwithstanding)
Now, even with an understandable no-bash policy in place, this is not the same as shutting down any meaningful thoughtful discussion, showing two sides, merely because the owner's or favorite posters' business interests may not be served, or be shown in a poor light. A few of us were recently shocked at this occurrence on another completely different forum.
This criteria, code named "ideals" is now apparently one of the benchmarks for moderating elsewhere.
Now, that said, my partners and I have certainly taken a few stands that may have offended a few, but I feel that it was done pretty much in the "open", and addressed, something that somehow seems to be lacking in a few other places.
There is a creepy feeling, that like Johnny warned, "there is more going on than you may think".
btw, this is now the second most posted thread here.
