I have a customer that wants to print old school pin striping behind and around a logo.
This will be red on a black shirt. The pin stripes are only 3 pt. wide.
Would you underbase these? If I choke them back there isn't any line left to print. If I leave them full width I have problems with registration.
What are your thoughts?

i printed some pinstripes not long ago, and not that thin, but if i were doing it again, id use discharge ink just like the first time since they came out so nice. 8)

Assuming plastisol ink,
If all of the red is small like that, you may do fine with just a good opaque ink.
On the other hand, if the rest of the design justifies it, an underbase line of 2pts should still add some pop, and be fairly easy to register on most presses.

Make the top color larger and keep the under base at 3pt.

I actually have some discharge samples that I was beginning to work with but am inexperienced to print for a customer. Chicken I guess! I have to start somewhere so I'm going to try it tomorrow. Thanks for the push.

Don't be afraid to load up a bit on the pigment for the red. The recipe my mixing system called for needed boosting by almost 400% to get a decent red.

Ok so I did this with Magna white and also mixed up some Magna red. The discharge was easy to do!! I'm sold! (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/09/04/zytemabu.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/09/04/8e4aquta.jpg)

Nice tone fade on that one, those can be tough to hold when using enough pressure to drive DC into the shirt.
