WARNING, WARNING,WILL ROBINSON
« on: February 28, 2022, 07:49:00 AM »
( If you do not know who Will Robinson is Google it.)

If you are on Facebook and get a message thru messenger saying something about a friends cell phone being hacked and they want your
phone number and e-mail address.  DELETE, DELETE, DELETE

My wife got one supposedly from her brother.  She sent back.  We are not sure if it is a scam or what.  But her brother did not send it.

Now all of my wife contacts are being contacted about it.

We think it is the Russians hacking into our system.

Be safe our there.

An all too common problem. Facebook allows rascals to start new accounts with your name and your profile picture as long as they use a new, unique email address. Then, depending on your privacy settings, they can contact your friends through messenger. Often, the message will contain a bad link. Generally, the giveaway is a very generic heading for the message rather than something specifically tailored to the individual recipient.

Phone number AND email address are BIG RED FLAGS.....phone number is the most common thing people pass on to email provider as a backup to authenticate if the email address is compromised.  Having both is likely a guarantee to get the email hacked.
