Reno flash code
« on: October 01, 2025, 03:27:04 PM »
I’ve got a Reno flash that has a code LLLL on the display.  I’ve replaced the thermocoupler and the static relay but with no luck getting rid of the code.

It will let me select a temp but when I confirm it the LLLL comes back.

Anyone ever had the same experience?

I don't have a Reno but on most PID controllers LLLL means lower limit, which usually means
something wrong between thermocouple and PID. Check wiring between thermocouple and PID
if it isn't direct, and also make sure wiring polarity is correct, maybe even swap it for giggles.
If it's reversed the temp reading will go down as actual temp goes up, which is one
of those funny jokes that machines like to play on us.

I appreciate that.  I called M&R and they told me that it might be that the glass tube the thermocoupler slides in may be busted.

It didn't make sense at first, but yeah if the thermocouple is grounding out to something it could cause
bad signal (I think it goes high in that case though). Let the thermocouple free dangle to confirm.

Other possibility is bad PID controller of course. I'd look for a model number on it but really they're jellybeans
these days.

Just thought I’d update.  It was the temp control in case anyone else is still using a Reno flash.  I appreciate everyone’s help.
