new (to me) plotter cutting bad corners
« on: September 26, 2019, 12:12:56 PM »
For those of use using plotters (we just do heat applied here) I recently replaced our 25 year old Roland with a used GX24. I've been cutting for a long time, but only occasionally, so I've yet to see this happen. All of the corners look like they didn't quite finish the cut. I don't have days to read through this and other forums, so I was hoping someone here would recognize and recommend some fixes...

No expert here, but I think that a result like you illustrated could be due to your offset value being set too high.
At least, that's what this pdf from Graphtec seems to indicate. (perhaps you have something similar available from Roland.)

It may also be a worn blade holder I'm seeing...

How is your cut strip? When I first got my new (to me) GS-24, I did a practice cut on thin vinyl right after thick vinyl and my pressure setting was too high. I had bad corners right after that error. I ordered a new cut strip and put in a new blade and all was right in the world again.

it could also be the belt that moves the carriage, there should be a tension adjustment on it. I would tighten that up a few turns and give it a go...

As a matter of fact this is happening a lot if the blade holder is full of crap like spray glue residue or other dirt that makes it hard for the blade to move freely.
At least that has been the case for us.

I did check for debris, it was pretty clean. I did put in another blade I had, and that was better, enough to get through the job. Over the weekend I'll dive in and make the offsets and other suggested items are correct. Thanks everyone, I hope you all have a great weekend.

I believe that’s too much offset.

We haves the same cutter and reference this frequently.

There you go! I knew that there had to be something from Roland similar to the Graphtec guide I linked. And, this kind of info is not brand specific.

And you win the prize, set the offset from the recommended 0.25 to 0.10, and it's beautiful. And, so I have one last glitch which I can't seem to find the answer to. After a cut, when I lift the lever, the carriage doesn't return to the right, it just stays at the origin point. If I shut it off and turn it back on (the answer to just about everything) it resets to it's 0 point, and all is good, until the next time. Anyone?

Before you release the carriage, hit the menu button twice and the screen will say unsetup....hit enter. (thanks for the edit Frog)
